Job Summary/Basic Function:

Responsible for sports-related information and communication in web, broadcast media, print, and publications for assigned sports and department initiatives; serving as liaison with coaches, student-athletes, department staff, sponsor representatives, alumni, community outreach, and print/media communications with the Athletic Department. Work closely with other members of the department’s athletic media relations and strategic communications staff to promote and protect the institution and those who represent Boise State



Level Scope:

Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision-making. This level is typically focused on self-development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.



Essential Functions:
  • Serve as the secondary contact for the football program.
  • Travel to away games with the football program.
  • Serve as the primary contact for one additional Olympic sport as assigned.
  • Write and publish weekly press releases, media guides and game programs.
  • Publish and update game results, game stories, statistics and general information on the web in relation to assigned sports as well as making sure the website is up to date with information about Boise State teams, coaches, student-athletes and other activities in the athletic department.
  • Coordinate interviews, correspondence and media relations with media outlets, opponents, and conference office in relation to assigned sports.
  • Prepare student-athletes, coaches and staff for media opportunities.
  • Facilitate the gathering, reporting, and archiving of statistics and photos for assigned sports.
  • Organize and coordinate event management for assigned sports as well as assist other SIDs when needed.
  • Work with operations staff to fulfill home event sponsor and advertiser recognition commitments.
  • Possible oversight of one or more graduate assistant(s) in the athletics media relations office.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Ability to multitask, work effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Problem-solving skills involving groups and/or events
  • Basic knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues
  • Basic knowledge and experience of journalism or media/public relations

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent


Preferred Qualifications:


  • One (1) year of full-time experience in a collegiate or professional sports media relations office.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with a Division I football program or NFL franchise.
  • Demonstrated experience working with traditional media outlets and reporters.
  • Master’s degree.
