Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
At the Universities at Shady Grove (USG), located in Rockville, MD, the Assistant Director, Events, reporting to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer, will be responsible for overall strategies, design, and implementation of special events that support a wide variety of community engagement and branding initiatives celebrating the accomplishment of objectives in academics, student services, wealth-building, community, and image building.
The Assistant Director, Events will ensure consistently branded events are consolidated, leveraged and optimized in a cohesive overall plan. The Assistant Director will serve as needed as a member on all four of the Industry sector (hub) committees and is responsible for producing the signature events impacting students, staff, industry, partners, and the community through the industry sectors (hubs). The Assistant Director, Events will also serve as the strategic point of contact for the nine partner universities, public schools and community colleges regarding programming in the development and design of academic-related events, and will manage staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Required Experience:
A minimum of 7-9 years of related experience; including a minimum of 3 years of experience in event design, developing mission-oriented special events (virtual and in-person), applying community engagement strategies for medium to large scale events, and 2 years of experience managing and supervising staff.

- Ability to promotie diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment.
Preferences:

- Master’s degree.
- Experience working in higher education or non profit organization.
- Experience working with large scale events or in a multi-institutional environment.
- Experience working with volunteer management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software, virtual meeting platforms and project management software.
- Member of a professional events organization – (International Live Events Association).
Additional Certifications:
Preferred:
Special event certification through an accredited organization (Certified Special Events Professional) or event management certificate program.
