Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications

This position reports to the Associate Director of Culinary Development & Nutrition. The Assistant Director of Marketing/Communications is responsible for representing Auxiliary Services by serving as a liaison to the campus community with the key mission of developing relationships and increasing brand awareness through marketing plans and execution. This position supports the department with a range of marketing and communication activities including targeted marketing programs and strategies, brand development, event advertising, promotional materials, website management, content development and support for video, photography and social media.


Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Create and oversee marketing initiatives and content (including publications, website, marketing materials) for Auxiliary Services and ensure all marketing and communications are consistent with the College’s communications and branding guidelines
  • Direct the strategic use of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) to drive engagement and connection with critical audiences and constituencies
  • Conduct market research of products and services through collecting, analyzing and translating date into action plans and programs
  • Implement marketing strategies to increase recognition and reputation of the Holy Cross Dining & Auxiliary Services
  • Creates brand standards throughout Auxiliary Services
  • Collaborates with College Marketing & Communications regularly
  • Promote Holy Cross through trade journals, contest submissions, and other relevant news or media outlets
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with on campus constituents
  • Provide marketing support and direction to other divisional departments as needed
  • Coordinate and organize special events and monotony breakers
  • Develop and maintains department website
  • Expands our sustainability efforts and “tells the story”
  • Invites local partners and farmers to campus to showcase our relationships
  • Responsible for maintaining and confirming accuracy of daily and special menu information for digital menu screens and online menus
  • Applies for grants related to food sustainability and making a positive impact on our regional food systems
  • Responsible for the design of a variety of visual communications projects that engage our various constituencies such as catering menus, posters, signage, brochures, digital graphics
  • Earn positive media coverage both on campus and in trade publications by being proactive, accessible and quick to respond with compelling stores and quality photography
  • Serves as the primary spokesperson, speaking to current and prospective parents and students as well as on campus departments
  • Manages student intern by keeping them productive
  • Responsible for administering the annual customer satisfaction survey and using data to create actionable goals to improve customer satisfaction
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in communication or marketing preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience in communications or marketing
  • Experience in college food service or hospitality
  • Creative ability in writing, graphic arts, photography and videography.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects for delivery in a timely manner
  • Advanced knowledge of technology
  • Be able to work independently, take initiative and be a productive member of the team
  • Demonstrated marketing management skills and the ability to work effectively with key decision-makers across the campus community
