Position Overview
This Assistant Director contributes to our vibrant campus environment through the development and implementation of campus programming geared toward student engagement and involvement outcomes. This position will specifically focus on energizing campus-wide student participation through a variety of programs including late-night, weekend, large-scale, and city-wide events. The Assistant Director of Student Activities will collaborate with campus and community partners to enhance the holistic development of the Butler University student body. This is a full-time, live-on-campus position.
Responsibilities
- Review, create and implement programming with an emphasis on risk management for late night, weekend, large-scale and city-wide programs that emphasize connection and engagement as well as provide a sense of belonging amongst campus and peers to contribute to the University's “Butler Beyond” strategy and the Division of Student Affairs’ strategic plan.
- Develop office programs and services for students that advance an intentionally inclusive campus community and contribute to BUBeWell.
- Train and Advise the University Program Council (UPC) student management team on campus-wide programming associated with their respective committees including Late Night, Student Union, Traditions, and City Excursions – navigating liability issues and mitigating risk, suggesting alternatives, arranging services, reviewing and preparing contracts, and providing resources and ideas to students as needed.
- Advise large-scale programming groups including Butler Ambassadors for Special Olympics (BASO) and Butler University Dance Marathon (BUDM), working with individual agencies for philanthropic events, making arrangements and receiving funds.
- Utilize programming and contract skills, and vendor knowledge to collaborate with colleagues to support programs and initiatives that engage students in meaningful ways; share programming expertise with other students, colleagues and campus partners; be present for organizational events and programs; and support trips, retreats and other departmental sponsored initiatives.
- Contribute to the Office of Student Activities by providing advising support for Student Government Association (SGA).
- Maintain website, social media and other internal/external facing communication resources, in collaboration with Office of Student Activities team.
- Supervise student leaders, helping them navigate university systems and reach sound conclusions.
- Contribute to a highly engaged Butler student experience and vibrant campus culture by living on campus and supporting student life efforts. Expectations include participation in a shared Campus Activities on-call rotation (please note, this is not part of Residence Life on-call duty); collaboration with colleagues to support programs and initiatives that engage students in meaningful ways; being present for co-curricular programs; and supporting student trips, retreats and other departmental sponsored initiatives.
- Contribute to the University's strategic goal of creating an intentionally diverse, inclusive, and equitable learning and working environment.

Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field
- Strong organization skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple programs and projects
- Experience advising college students
- Experience planning and comprehensive understanding of best practices as it related to programming including risk mitigation, contract processes and event planning processes
- Collaborative, innovative professional with the ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with students and colleagues
- Have a passion for developing student leaders and desire a high level of engagement
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
- Understanding of college student development theory
- Command of technology including student organizational management software (Engage), space reservation systems (EMS), social media and other online tools
