Assistant to the Advisor of the CEO

Note: APA operates on a 37.5-hour work week with one hour lunch breaks each day. APA sets salaries based on several considerations, including years of relevant experience, level of education, and previous staff and/or governance experience at APA.

DESCRIPTION:

This position is intended to assist the Senior Advisor to the CEO with their broad portfolio of responsibilities in order to best support the CEO. This includes participating in strategic meetings, performing literature searches and compiling written briefings on issues of immediate or long-term relevance to psychology and the association, drafting correspondence and other forms of communication on behalf of the CEO, and helping to craft the CEO’s presentations for a variety of audiences.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Doctoral degree in psychology or related field preferred. Applicants with a master’s degree in psychology will also be considered.

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, particularly an ability to write well.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Advanced skills using MS Office.

Proficient using research databases.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Simultaneously manage multiple priorities and projects for the Senior Advisor to the CEO. Participate in strategic meetings, sometimes on the Senior Advisor to the CEO’s behalf, with staff across the association and APA governance groups/elected and appointed leaders. Compile, evaluate and synthesize research. Write briefings on issues of relevance to psychology and the association. Draft correspondence and other forms of communication on behalf of the CEO. Help to develop the CEO’s remarks and PowerPoint presentations for a variety of audiences.
