Associate Director of Career Development

Pepperdine University Caruso School of Law is seeking an Associate Director of Career Development to guide and advise students and alumni on their career paths. The Associate Director of Career Development works directly with students on their career development and professional skills training, and collaborates with the CDO team to prepare resources, provide programs, and expand opportunities for employment.

Duties

  • Counsel students and alumni in career planning, job search strategies, resume preparation, interviewing skills, and networking in the diverse legal market and other professional career interest areas as part of the Career Development Office (CDO).
  • Serve as the CDO's primary BigLaw contact. This will include managing the CDO's BigLaw Preview Event each Spring and our BigLaw Info Session each Fall. With the assistance of the Recruiting Coordinator and the support of the Director, the Associate Director will encourage BigLaw registrations for the CDO's recruiting program. The Associate Director will spend time liaising and networking with our BigLaw counterparts, with an eye towards growing our BigLaw numbers.
  • Research, review, and enter employment outcomes to aid in preparation of employment reports.
  • Foster effective working relationships with employers, students, alumni, staff, and other placement professionals.
  • Participate regularly in alumni and employer networking functions.
  • Assist with maintaining and enhancing CDO databases and resource materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: J.D. degree; 2+ years’ legal experience. Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills; Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities; Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, alumni, staff, faculty, and employers; Strong commitment to diversity and ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds; Superior oral and written communication skills; Ability to effectively handle and meet deadlines. Strong technology abilities, with high degree of comfort using Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Preferred: One or more years in BigLaw; Experience in career development/coaching.

Qualified individuals should be able to articulate a strong commitment to diversity, and have the ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a criminal, education, and employment screening. Qualified individuals with criminal histories will be considered for employment in compliance with applicable laws.

This is a Restricted, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $81,900.00 - $91,000.00 per year

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
