Purpose:

Responsible for partnering with R&D functions and Finance to build a predictive view of resourcing across R&D to drive & achieve R&D strategies, goals, and objectives. Develop depth of knowledge of R&D and Development resource models to address business priority shifts, budget opportunities or constraints, helping leadership determine options and tradeoffs between scenarios. Leverage functional resource experts and Finance partners to make recommendations on how to effectively deploy available resources for R&D activities. Pressure-test and refine assumptions/outputs of models based on actual time reporting from time reporting system. Globally influence and strategically manages resourcing linkages across the R&D functions and understand the impact of business decisions and solutions.


Responsibilities:

  • Partners with R&D functions to develop R&D resource forecast and associated budget. Responsible for short- and long-term forecast creation and development of alternative scenarios.
  • Serves as resource model expert and establishes relationships with key finance resources / and R&D stakeholders to provide consulting on the development and ongoing maintenance of resource models across R&D.
  • Comprehends overall portfolio timelines, cost estimates and key milestones to assess portfolio resources and associated financial opportunities. Partners with other functional areas on portfolio shifts to proactively anticipate changing business needs
  • Ensures consistency and accuracy of R&D functional resourcing models. Sense-checks assumptions across functions to ensure consistency in estimations across R&D and standardizes resource modeling for organization.
  • Develops and maintains business relationships across R&D functional areas and across AbbVie to further R&D’s objectives in support of the strategic imperatives. Partners with R&D functions/Finance frequently to discuss deviations from plan & identify root causes
  • Leverage internal capabilities to outline budget and FTEs available; outline where resources are limited, develop potential options to reprioritize resources, including tradeoffs and implications to overall R&D shared organizational goals
  • Collaborates across R&D to participate in initiatives to improve operational performance, enhance culture, and improve decision making in regards to workforce management.
  • Accountable for establishment and management of resource modeling tools and processes needed to ensure robust predictive resource models.
  • Aggregates functional resource estimates for Business Development activities; supports deployment of resource plans post-close. Facilitate discussions with leadership on where to reprioritize activities or request additional resourcing to support Business development activities.



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advance degree preferred.
  • At least 5-7 years industry experience in the Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, or other Healthcare related field. Experience in resource management including forecasting, modeling and predictive analysis, project management practices, portfolio review, finance, and budgeting.
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, and motivate others in a complex, multi-functional matrix environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in both written and oral communication.
  • History of anticipating and resolving resourcing problems while exhibiting superior judgment and a balanced, realistic understanding of issues
  • Knowledge to represent and evaluate business strategies.
  • Strong implementer with attention to detail and business acumen
  • Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills; able to independently manage workload, set personal and team priorities and adjust as needed
  • Excellent relationship building skills and demonstrated diplomacy when working cross-functionally
