Associate Director, Social Media Strategy
This is an in-office based position in Foster City, CA
At Gilead, Digital Media Strategy and Operations plays a critical role for digital transformation, a strategic partner to our brands, and focuses on delivering a superior digital experience to our customers in the US.
Within the Customer Experience, Digital and Media Strategy team, the Digital Media and Strategy team is the main group for developing the Gilead US's digital media strategy; executing, measuring, and optimizing it with improved paid digital media quality and performance, in alignment with the brand teams.
Associate Director, Social Media Strategy at Gilead US will be an integral part of the Digital Media Strategy and Operations Team, serving as a strategic partner to our US brand teams. She/he will be responsible for developing and implementing social media strategies that enhance brands, increase customer engagement and loyalty, and drive sales. She/he will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure social media content is aligned with the overall marketing and business strategy.
As an Associate Director Social Media Strategy, reporting to the US Digital Media Strategy and Operations Lead, she/he will be a key member of the Digital Media Strategy and Operations Team supporting Gilead US’ s digital transformation. In this role, she/he will lead the development, execution, measurement, and optimization of our US Commercial social media strategy, with a focus on delivering a superior digital experience to our customers. She/he will collaborate closely with brand teams to align our paid media initiatives with their objectives and provide data-driven insights to influence decision making to achieve optimal outcomes.
Her/his responsibilities will also include managing relationships with external agencies, ensuring the standards are applied and partnering with Procurement and enabling functions on media purchasing and capability design. With her/his expertise in data analytics and social media strategy, she/he will evaluate options from multiple viewpoints and articulate recommendations to influence stakeholders.
As a key player in supporting our digital transformation, she/he will have the opportunity to shape our social media strategy and drive continuous improvement in our paid media quality and performance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute Gilead US’ s commercial social media strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of media plans, budgets, and performance metrics, providing insights and recommendations for optimizing social media campaigns and improving ROI.
  • Collaborate with brand teams, cross-functional teams, and creative agencies to align social media campaigns with business goals and objectives, oversee the development of audience targeting, media buying, and optimization strategies, and ensure continuous improvement on paid digital media quality.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for social media best practices, internal processes, and systems related to digital media.
  • Manage relationships with social media agencies, ensuring timely and compliant delivery of operational responsibilities in accordance with project milestones, and establish key relationships with US marketing brand teams and digital marketing operation teams.
  • Partner with US brand marketers to understand brand strategy, tactical plans, campaign requirements, data needs, and operational support associated with their digital marketing efforts.
  • Project manage and deliver all operational aspects of social media efforts assigned to the role, ensuring timely and compliant delivery of operational responsibilities in accordance with project milestones.
  • Monitor and analyze social media campaign performance data to identify trends, optimize campaigns, and make data-driven recommendations to brand teams.
  • Identify strategic social media opportunities and make recommendations to enhance brand awareness and growth.
  • Facilitate continued educational/training opportunities for internal marketing stakeholders and external agency teams.
  • Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with brand marketers, Regulatory Affairs, Business Conduct, Data Privacy, Procurement, IT Business Engagement, and Global Digital teams.
  • Collaborate closely with the Digital Media Strategy and Operations Lead and Digital Marketing Operations team on the build-out of capabilities/requirements SOPs, rollout, and training.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and Ten Years’ Experience
OR
Masters' Degree and Eight Years’ Experience
OR
PhD and Two Years’ Experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms, best practices, and trends.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to navigate timelines, budgets, and problem-solving.
  • Direct experience running social media marketing campaigns through a US biotech/pharma regulatory review process is a plus.
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills with the ability to formulate, align stakeholders to, and execute strategy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively tailor communication to a variety of groups and audiences.
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams and external agencies.
  • Demonstrated excellence in project management and proven track record of managing complex and/or multiple projects/priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively navigate a matrixed organization and lead without direct authority when needed.
  • Familiarity with digital media and marketing technologies and platforms, including social media, SEO, SEM, programmatic advertising, and data analytics.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to US pharmaceutical marketing, including FDA regulations and guidelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data and make strategic recommendations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The salary range for this position is: $185,895.00 - $240,570.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
