Job Description
What You’ll Be Doing
The Alternate Solution Group (ASG) is part of the Global Markets business. The group is responsible for deploying and executing on a number of market leading, innovative payment and money movement solutions servicing financial institutions, public sector clients, corporates, small businesses and CIBC’s retail branch network. ASG is a FinTech oriented disrupter with market leading foreign exchange capabilities. Unlike traditional FinTech organizations, CIBC provides a high degree of safety and security as one of the strongest financial institutions in North America.
As an Associate in ASG, you will be responsible for contributing to the expansion and growth of ASG’s product portfolio across the U.S region. The role has revenue responsibility, product development, internal stakeholder management and client relationship management.
You’re flexible to work hours as needed to help deliver a great client experience, which may include evenings and weekends.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.
How You’ll Succeed
  • New Client Acquisition and Partnership Growth – Deliver growth by expanding the number of clients and strategic partnerships across ASG’s product portfolio and deepen existing relationships. Bring to the table innovative features and product enhancements that are focused on generating new revenue streams in a cost-effective and risk-mitigated manner.
  • Relationship Management – responsible for managing existing client relationships and work closely with strategic internal and external partners for lead generation and any cross-sell opportunities. The candidate must have a historical track record of developing and executing specific client strategies that result in material YoY revenue growth.
  • Client Contracting & On-Boarding Functions – responsible for contracting and on-boarding new ASG clients within the U.S. region. Strong partnership with internal infrastructure groups within the Toronto and U.S. region is required.
  • Management of Client-Facing Materials – The candidate will be responsible for all client-facing conversations and materials including complex RFP documents, pitchbooks, presentation decks, brochures and digital media for new client acquisition.
  • Collaboration with Infrastructure Partners - Work closely with infrastructure groups to expand product growth and capabilities including global product teams, legal, marketing, technology, risk and compliance.
Who You Are
  • Education – Knowledge of Capital Markets and Financial Technology (FinTech) sector acquired through University degree and industry experience. Post graduate degree is considered an asset.
  • Product Ownership – experience in banking, payments, fintech or product ownership. Must have extensive experience and proven track record leading client sales and relationships within an organization and being accountable for revenue growth and liaising with cross functional infrastructure groups.
  • Driven to Succeed – ability to work in a results-oriented team and motivated by exceeding revenue goals and striving to make a positive impact across the business. Pushes the status quo and brings actionable ideas to grow the business. Must have proven track record growing new businesses with revenue attribution as a direct result of new client acquisition.
  • Detail Oriented – ability to multi-task in a fluid environment while maintaining focus. Ability to work and resolve issues independently (both from a client and internal perspective).
  • Collaborative – Confident, assertive, and able to function in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal skills, selling skills, and team player skills. Ability to very quickly acquire knowledge to demonstrate competence and add value to the transaction and client relationships.
  • Analytical – Excellent analytical and intellectual capabilities; proven ability to draft comprehensive proposals using advanced functions in PowerPoint, Excel, Word.
  • Communication – Exceptional communication skills to be effective in large client presentations, 1:1 client meetings and cold calls. Ability to effectively communicate with internal stakeholders to influence decisions.
  • Time Management – Ability to prioritize tasks and create a focus around what is strategically important.
  • Approachable – viewed as a partner and eager to assist in all aspects of the business.

Conduct and Culture Risk

  • Escalating matters through one of the appropriate channels identified in the CIBC Code of Conduct (i.e., HR, management, Ethics Hotline, Whistleblower, etc.) upon observing activities that may be inconsistent with CIBC’s policies, frameworks, guidelines, processes and controls, and where applicable, assist in the resolution of same
  • Speaking up if witnessing behaviors that drive poor or unfair outcomes for clients, team members or other stakeholders
  • Escalating matters that can result in adverse market practices and outcomes, thereby negatively impacting CIBC’s reputation as a leading financial institution
At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This Associate I role has an expected salary of USD$160,000 for the New York, NY market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
