Keypath Education is supporting American International College’s search for a full-time Assistant Professor (9-month) in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program this Fall 2023.

American International Collegeis a private, coeducational institution of higher education located on a 88+ acre campus in Springfield, Massachusetts. The campus has 42 buildings on two sites approximately 1/2 mile apart with a total of approximately 888,000 gross square feet. Included in the inventory of buildings are student residences for a resident population of 900 students. Founded in 1885, the College has approximately 2200 graduate and undergraduate students. Job Description

AIC seeks applicants for a full-time Assistant Professor (9-month) position in the Division of Graduate Psychology, housed within the School of Business, Arts, and Sciences, beginning August 21, 2023. A doctorate in forensic/clinical psychology, or a closely related field, is required. Additionally, it is preferred applicants be a licensed psychologist and/or a licensed mental health counselor in Massachusetts or in another state with eligibility in Massachusetts.

The successful candidate will teach courses in the Forensic Psychology and the Clinical Mental Health programs. As such, demonstrated effectiveness as an instructor in higher education and experience developing curriculum are preferred, however individuals with rich field experience will be considered. Knowledge and/or practice with forensic assessment/intervention and clinical mental health, with a commitment to working collaboratively and within the college and community are required skills. The teaching schedule will be late afternoons and/or evenings two or three days a week, excluding Fridays.

  • Teach 24 credit hours per academic year (generally 12 credits hours per academic semester) as assigned by the Dean, unless other arrangements, additional duties, or contract provisions have been made.
  • Participate in course and curriculum development.
  • Participate, in accordance with Departmental and College need, in the ongoing design and continuous implementation of assessment of student learning outcomes and academic program improvement activities in the areas of General Education and the academic major. Attend the AIC assessment workshops.
  • Serve as academic advisor for students in the major and for other students as may be assigned by the Department Chair/Division Director and/or Dean.
  • Serve on Faculty Senate, faculty and trustee committees, or ad hoc committees as elected or appointed by the Dean or Provost.
  • Maintain a minimum of four office hours weekly, scheduled to meet the needs of the students, and to be available to meet with students, as needed, at other times throughout the week.
  • Attend scheduled general faculty, school faculty, and departmental faculty meetings.
  • Attend the Academic Awards program, Convocation, and Commencement exercises, and be available to participate in activities which promote the College in a positive manner both on and off campus.
  • Participate in professional development activities related to one's faculty role.
  • Engage in scholarly activities appropriate to one's discipline, teaching responsibilities, and other academic responsibilities.
  • Engage and interact with students in positive ways, such as by guiding student research projects, by serving as the advisor to student clubs and organizations, or by mentoring students in other scholarly activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair/Director, Dean or Provost.
  • Assist the Center for Academic Success with activities related to student success, retention and advising.
  • Assist Admissions with student recruitment as related to departmental programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required Degree(s): Doctorate in Psychology or Related Field
  • Required Field of Expertise: Psychology with experience in clinical and/or forensic field
  • Preferred Licensure(s): Licensed Psychologist or Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Clinical and assessment experience with forensic populations
  • Knowledgeable on the criminal justice systems and procedures related to forensic psychology
  • Knowledgeable on APA standards
  • Knowledgeable on psychopathology, substance use disorders, and other related forensic psychology topics
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Blackboard, and the instructional use of technology to teach traditional, hybrid or online courses, as needed
  • Ability to foster a collaborative atmosphere among students and faculty

Additional Information

Work Schedule: This is a full-time, exempt-level, benefit-eligible position. Hours of work are flexible to the needs of the department and will include late afternoons and/or evenings two or three days a week, excluding Fridays. Occasional weekend event work required.
