At Atlan, we started as a data team ourselves tackling problems like national healthcare and poverty alleviation with data science. (Check out our TEDx talk and case studies.)

The problem: After working on 200+ data projects, we learned how tough it was to scale data teams. Data teams are one of the most interdisciplinary teams ever created. They're made up of analysts, data scientists, engineers, business users – diverse people with their own tooling preferences, skill sets, and "DNA" that need to come together. This leads to collaboration chaos.

We were awoken with crisis calls every second day for the minutest of issues — from troubleshooting why a number on a dashboard was incorrect to difficulties in getting access to the right data set! Atlan started with us building tools to make our own data team more agile.

These tools made our team 6x more agile, helping us take on amazing projects like building India's National Data Platform used by India's Prime Minister. The best part — this was built by an eight-member team, the fastest project of its kind to go live, in a record twelve months instead of the projected three years.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Manager to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating multiple projects across diverse teams. Your primary focus will be on developing efficient processes, executing effective strategies, and ensuring the timely completion of releases.

As an Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in researching and developing innovative products. You will also be responsible for creating project plans and overseeing their successful execution by optimising sprints & release management. Collaborating closely with various teams, you will ensure that releases are delivered on schedule and within budget, maintaining a high level of quality and adherence to organizational objectives.

What will you do? 🤔

• Lead & Manage Projects: Oversee and drive the completion of complex engineering projects, ensuring timely and budget-friendly delivery. Utilize tools like Jira, Agile, and Scrum.

• Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop and execute strategic plans that align with Atlan's business objectives. Adapt strategies based on industry trends and stakeholder feedback.

• Team Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor engineers, providing guidance, feedback, and support for professional growth. Conduct performance reviews and set goals.

• Adding Business Value: Ensure engineering efforts deliver tangible business value for customers. Prioritize and address customer problems to improve product features and user experience.

• Technical Oversight & Decision Making: Lead technical discussions, contribute expertise in backend engineering, cloud infrastructure, and security. Define and track engineering metrics.

• Engineering Operations Management: Manage support rosters, on-call schedules, and release management for smooth operations and quick issue resolution.

• Driving Collaboration: Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, presenting complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

What makes you a great match for us? 😍

• Engineering Management: Proven ability to manage and deliver complex projects on time and within scope using Jira, Agile, and Scrum.

• Leadership & People Management: Experience leading and developing teams, managing 5+ direct reports, and fostering a collaborative culture.

• Strategic Vision: Ability to align engineering efforts with business goals and adapt strategies to industry trends.

• Customer Empathy: Strong focus on understanding and addressing customer needs in customer-centric environments.

• Technical Decision Making: Extensive experience with B2B SaaS products, building technical products, and optimizing engineering metrics. Data Engineering experience is a plus.

• Communication: Excellent skills in articulating technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Adaptability & Industry Experience: Thrive in a fast-paced, remote-first environment. Experience in data platforms, AI governance, or data management is preferred.
