Mechanics Bank is currently searching for an Auditor. Here at Mechanics Bank, we value connection, partnership, long term relationships and working together in person. This role will be working on-site at our Roseville, Walnut Creek or Irvine locations.
You are responsible for performing audits to assess the overall operational efficiency of retail banking branches, business loan centers, administrative departments, and other Mechanics Bank departments and functions. You will also assess compliance with established Bank policies, procedures, federal/state regulations, and prudent banking practices. You will use objective standards and guidelines, which are applied consistently in the review of operations. You will assist in writing audit reports, which are finalized at the conclusion of operational and/or regulatory audits. Other internal control and audit administrative related duties may also be assigned (e.g. preparing materials for various committee meetings). Must maintain a team approach, rather than a policing approach, in support of bank personnel.
What you will do:
Review and assess the Bank's operational efficiency of retail bank branches, loan centers and administrative departments through periodic audits of each.
Conduct independent regulatory compliance audits to determine the bank’s compliance through periodic reviews of each regulation.
Prepare work paper documentation to support audit work with evidence of deficiencies in controls, fraud, or lack of compliance with laws, government regulations, and management's policies or procedures. Work paper documentation must comply with industry standards.
Review records of branches/departments subject to audit for purposes of recognizing inefficiencies and making recommendations for improvements.
Coordinate and analyze the preparation of periodic reports on specific bank activities as scheduled by the Audit Manager and/or Audit Director.
Conduct focused investigative audit work under the close direction of the Audit Manager and/or Audit Director to identify irregularities and to develop controls for fraud prevention.
Provide management with recommendations for revisions to policy and/or procedures when appropriate.
Assist in the development of audit and analytical programs as directed.
Work in conjunction with Compliance personnel to ensure the Bank's compliance with financial institution laws and regulations.
Supports Audit Manager and/or Audit Director in audit administrative related duties as requested to do so.
Maintain good working relationship with all Mechanics Bank personnel to foster an open dialogue between audit and other bank personnel.
Perform all other job duties as assigned by manager.
Conduct high-quality audits of all sizes and complexity within established timelines and budgeted hours. The Auditor is capable of conducting most operational audits within the audit plan of Mechanics Bank. Recommend scopes of audit for specific functions within assigned audit responsibility.
Support Audit Manager and/or Audit Director in annual risk assessments and audit scheduling as requested to do so. Maintain standard audit programs of branches and departments established for this type of audit.
Auditors are charged with training less experienced audit personnel in audit routines and conducting audit fieldwork.
May make presentations to various bank personnel and departments on internal controls, audit findings and recommendations.
May focus on specific areas of the bank as a subject matter expert, including but not limited to Lending, Regulatory Compliance or IT.
Who you are:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field with 5 years previous bank auditing experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent understanding of bank operating and accounting principles, and data analytical techniques required. Proficient in computer usage with ability to prepare spreadsheets and management reports utilizing bank software system.
Proficient with MS Office suite and internet.
Ability to work independently, organize tasks efficiently, and perform the audit function accurately.
Able to cope with pressure resulting from meeting required deadlines and reporting requirements.

Ability to travel long distances, including overnight travel which may include air travel. Routine travel to bank locations using personal vehicle is required.
Travel outside of assigned region is estimated at 25%.

Pay Range: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 Annually
Final compensation package will be determined by the work experience, education, and/or skill level of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.
