Job Overview
As Vice President of Engineering, you will report to the CTO and be responsible for driving the engineering strategy, product development and quality, and developing a high-performing team. Your strategic vision will ensure we build strong foundations that drive outstanding customer outcomes and promote cross-functional collaboration within the company. This role will involve hands-on technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and collaborating closely with the executive team to align the company’s technology vision with business objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background, enterprise lifecycle product experience, and a startup-style passion for rapidly building innovative products in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Define and execute the engineering strategy in alignment with the company’s business goals
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
Contribute to strategic decisions and provide insights on technical feasibility and trade-offs
Product Development
Lead engineering execution, ensuring quality software through continuous, iterative development practices, while driving initiatives to refine the overall development approach and delivery processes
Lead company-wide prioritization of improvements to code quality, systems, and the engineering processes to support these
Collaborate with the product management team to prioritize features and deliver high-quality products on schedule
Manage all key aspects of software engineering, including architecture, design process, and coding standards
Team Growth & Development
Develop and execute a strategy to identify and hire quality team members that contribute to the company’s high performance culture
Produce and maintain career development plans that challenge team members to grow their potential
Establish a strong engineering culture that values and demonstrates respect for the company, its customers and team members
Operational Management
Manage the engineering budget, including resource allocation, tools, and infrastructure costs
Establish metrics for measuring engineering performance and product quality, and report regularly to the executive team
Ensure the team has the resources, tools, and support needed to perform at the highest level
Cross-Department Collaboration
Work closely with Product, Design, and Sales teams to ensure alignment on business goals and deliverables
Act as a key liaison between engineering and other departments, ensuring that engineering’s role in achieving company objectives is well understood
Qualifications
12+ years of experience in software engineering, with a minimum of 6 years in a senior leadership role
Proven track record of leading and scaling enterprise software engineering teams and products, with a startup ethos that prioritizes high performance, quality execution and on-time delivery
Passion for designing, evolving, and optimizing the development process, leveraging agile methodologies like Scrum to help developers maintain a productive and high-velocity workflow
Experience managing software development practices and processes through containerized environments, internally within teams and in production
Articulate, confident, and persuasive communication skills, coupled with the ability to listen and prioritize diverse perspectives
Experienced at establishing effective communication channels and collaboration tools to facilitate seamless interaction and cooperation between geographically-dispersed teams
Strong customer-centric mindset and a willingness to engage directly with key customers
Preferred Qualifications
Technical experience working with Ruby, Python, Node/Javascript/Typescript, Kubernetes, AWS and related services
Product experience building data-intensive applications
Experience building AI-first and AI-forward products
Experience in the Sales Enablement space
Experience with Product Design methodologies and teams, focused on UX/UI iteration before development
