Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We’re searching for a Summer 2024 Software Engineering Intern.
In this role, you will:
• Complete an impactful internship project aligned with Aurora’s current priorities and product vision
• Work with a dedicated Mentor for project guidance and coaching, and collaborate closely with other full-time team members
• Learn more about Aurora, connect with other Interns and employees, and develop new skills through events and programming
Required Qualifications:
• Actively pursuing a BS, Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Computer Graphics or a related technical area with a graduation date between December 2024 - May 2025
• Ability to read and develop production quality software in C++ and/or Python
• Experience writing robust, intuitive, high-performance code as demonstrated through previous internships, work experience, research projects or conferences/publications
• Passion for solving challenging, impactful problems as part of a team, and a “win together” mindset
We are hiring software interns for the Software teams described below:
Online Map: Proficiency in Python for developing production-quality software is required. Knowledge of C++ is a plus. Previous experience in perception-related topics, such as deep learning, lidar, radar, gained through internships, work experience, research projects, or conference publications, is highly valued.
Motion Planning: Experience with planning approaches including randomized search methods, trajectory optimization, model predictive control, and other advanced control techniques through previous internships, work experience research, and/or publications.
Perception: Experience with Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or other relevant areas of Artificial Intelligence and familiarity with PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow as demonstrated through previous internships, work experience research, and/or publications.
Machine Learning Data Engine: Experience with storage and database management systems, working in cloud environments (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure). Familiarity with 3D geometry, autonomous driving, 3D computer vision, robotics, mapping, 3D labeling.
Platform Software and Services: Interest in robotics, and ‘close to the metal’ software development. Experience in C++, Linux, CPUs/GPUs, gRPC, hardware in the loop testing, and data dashboards / data logs. Previous work and interest in sensors and raw sensor data.
Simulation, Test, Validation: We are looking for candidates who have experience in simulation of complex, multi-agent systems. Background in vehicle dynamics, control and estimation theory, collision detection, road networks, and spatial queries is required. Proficiency in C++ is a must as well as strong s/w engineering foundational principles. Experience working in an Agile s/w development cycle is a plus.
Systems Safety Engineering: Experience in safety of autonomous, ML-based systems. Ability to perform first-principles, data-driven analysis to derive requirements. Desirable: Familiarity with robotics, statistics, automotive safety, collision models, vehicle control, vehicle dynamics, etc. as demonstrated through previous internships, work experience research, and/or publications.
Technology Foundations: Experience with cloud infrastructure, acceleration of compute platforms, visualization applications (Unity, ThreeJS, WebGL, etc), and experience working with PyTorch or other ML frameworks. Familiarity with kubernetes and other container orchestration systems as well as an interest in working with compilers.
Perception Simulation: We are seeking a skilled C++ professional with a strong understanding of computer graphics and ray-tracing. Knowledge of Python, experience with commercial DCC tools like Houdini, and a solid grasp of mathematics and probability would be valuable additions. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in creating lifelike simulations to test and improve our autonomous vehicle capabilities.
Hourly Rate
The base hourly pay rate for this internship is as follows:
$52.00 per hour for interns pursuing an undergraduate degree;
$57.00 per hour for interns pursuing a master’s degree; and
$71.00 per hour for interns pursuing a doctoral degree.
Interns must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the internship. Aurora does not offer J-1 visa sponsorship for interns.
