This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing Government business unit as an Automated Tester. We, amongst many things, deliver next generation digital capability to defence customers.
Our Digital Solutions team is leading the way in providing Cloud-centric solutions. Currently we are working on building an exciting cloud-agnostic product as part of our Cloud-Enabled Mission Services (CEMS) project, helping prepare our clients for the challenges of tomorrow.

Job role
The role of the CEMS Automated Test Engineer is to create test designs, plans, scripts, programs and supporting artefacts using appropriate tools. Assess where automating tests would be beneficial. Troubleshoot issues discovered in both the test itself and the item under test. Accurately Detail discovered issues within the appropriate tooling. Explain to development and management the severity of any issue. Execute tests as described and accurately record results. Use product knowledge to run investigative tests. Tailor approach to the phase of the project being executed.
What background are we looking for?
You will have experience in as many as possible of the following:
- Produce or validate the schedule and effort estimate for each performed task
- Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of schedule and endeavours to estimate accurately and deliver according to those estimates
- Demonstrate skill and adeptness in team collaboration, technical discussion and negotiation
- Continually increase personal understanding of the test frameworks, technical concepts, methods and measurements that underpin the engineering disciplines and practices of BAE systems
- Working with Software Engineers to guide and assure their testing
- Working with requirements owners to refine requirements such that they may be proven through testing
- Demonstrate the ability to understand, challenge, contribute or construct functional and non-functional requirements and be capable of building tests in line with the requirements
- Exploit appropriate test methods, languages, libraries and techniques and apply these to software engineering tasks to realise the most effective outcome
- Ensure that all work is consistent with defined standards where standards exist and to withstand professional scrutiny in any case
- Ensure high quality and delivery standards are met and consistently deliver quality test artefacts and reports on time and within estimate.
- Demonstrate the professionalism to reflect on and improve personal performance
Works as a member of an engineering team, collaborates with other team members and participates in technical discussions and conversations with customers
You will ideally have experience in some of these, but if not we’ll help you with them:
- Manage Relationships with internal management, development teams, and clients
- Co-ordinate the execution of test plans
- Delivering technical demonstrations to customers
- Familiarity with security concepts, including secure design and implementation
- Relational, document, or graph database systems
SC Security Clearance is required for this vacancy. If you are not currently Security Cleared, you will need to be eligible for this and willing to go through the process.
