InfoSum is the world’s leading data collaboration platform providing solutions to the world’s largest enterprise to collaborate across data sources and deliver richer customer experiences that prioritise consumer privacy. Our vision is to unlock data’s limitless potential, by enabling the world’s data to be connected but never shared. As a people-first organisation, we can offer you the personal and professional flexibility needed to get the job done, to grow with us, and help challenge the status quo. If you want to work with a business that encourages collaboration, champions the idea that the sum is greater than its parts, then we want to hear from you.

InfoSum is growing its backend engineering team and is looking for an Engineering Manager to provide excellent team management and leadership. By the end of 2022 we plan to have between 10 - 15 backend engineers, ranging from junior to staff level, and we want a technically intelligent and people driven manager to guide the team as we scale and mature our engineering function. This will be scaled towards team management and project alignment but we would also want someone to be technical in nature to be able to collaborate with your team and provide guidance when needed - the split between management and technical hands on will be around 80 / 20% (with occasional flexibility).

About you

We are looking for a proven Engineering Manager who has led similar sized teams and worked on scaling them in a rapidly growing environment. We split our engineering teams into front and back end, so proven experience of managing a backend team (not frontend or full stack) would be highly desirable. Our engineering team is full of passionate and engaging members and we want someone who can capture the team's ability to work alongside each other and support them across all aspects of team and people management.

Requirements

  • Leading a team - drive the operational excellence of your team, especially as it grows. You will align everyone to the team's goal. You will facilitate the team’s discussions with the wider Engineering function and Product team, translating client problems into viable solutions.
  • You will be the direct manager of the engineers in your practice, holding regular 1:1s and guiding individual development, allocating resources to meet demand and ensuring the team is aligned with each other.
  • You will work with other key stakeholders across Engineering and Product to solve problems that are blocking our platform roadmap.
  • You will be the driving force for team contribution and collaboration. You will facilitate the team in technical discussions to ensure the best solutions are being adopted. You will also need to be in alignment with our product roadmap to ensure the backend practice is supporting the wider engineering team.

Your experience and qualifications:
  • A proven Backend Engineering Manager.
  • Ability to manage a highly skilled team going through rapid growth on a scaling global platform.
  • Able to demonstrate high emotional intelligence across your team, peers and other departments and work as the centrepiece to unify the teams.
  • An understanding of software engineering within a complex microservices architecture build, with the ability to solve problems in large scaling systems, 20% of your time will be spent on complex technical responsibilities.
  • A strong career in backend engineering before moving into management, you will ideally align to our tech stack in a microservices build architecture:
    • Go
    • Protobuf
    • gRPC
    • PostgreSQL
    • Redis
    • Kafka
    • Docker
    • Full CI and fully automated deployments using Kubernetes and Ansible to multiple cloud providers - AWS, IBM Cloud, Azure
    • (But we will also consider strong profiles who are able to quickly sync up with teams using this tech stack.)

Benefits

You will receive a competitive salary, 8% pension contribution, 12.5% annual discretionary bonus (based on personal and company performance), private health care, 25 days annual holiday (not inclusive of bank holidays), mental health and wellbeing support, flexible working culture and the opportunity to receive share options. We have a fantastic brand new office in Basingstoke complete with a fully stocked fridge, in-house Chef for catered lunches and snacks.

For this role, we would ideally like for someone to be based locally and come into the office a 2-3 times a week for team syncs and hands on management, however, if you require more flexibility, we can discuss a solution that works for everyone.
