Job Description

We are currently seeking a qualified Area Construction Manager to join our Construction team, based out of Northern Nevada. The Area Construction Manager will be responsible for managing subcontractors, and supervising superintendents on projects. The Area Construction Manager is required to provide oversight to the subcontractor and ensure that staff are productive, comply with project policies & procedures as part of the innovative EPCM project team Thacker Pass a Lithium Americas project.  Once complete, Thacker Pass will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the country – enough to power 1 million electric vehicles annually! Must be eligible for a TN VISA to work in the United States.

Position will be a 6 on, 2 off rotation within the state of Nevada.  The project is located in the high desert and wide-open spaces of north-central Nevada about 25 miles from the Oregon border, 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada and 3 hours northeast of Reno.

As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team contractors engineering and building the facility.  They are also managing procurement of about $1 Billion in goods and services.

Earth work began in 2023 and design and procurement of long-lead equipment is underway.

Planned with sustainability and the environment in mind, the facility will use its excess process heat to generate electricity and will recycle process water up to seven times. Once the second phase of the project is complete, Thacker Pass will produce more than 16 times the current U.S. output of lithium.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Leadership / Supervision (Management of Construction Contractor with 100+ multidiscipline craft) 

  • Proactively engages with their team’s development through CPM, Competency development/assessment and feedback 
  • Supervises and directs Contractor, subordinate superintendents, and others, as assigned. 

Planning / Productivity 

  • Ensures Construction Contractor executes its contracted work in accordance with the project schedule.
  • Manages interface planning with common site services. 
  • Prepares reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecast. 

Safety & Quality 

  • Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications Responsible for the implementation of corporate/project policies, procedures, and instructions within assigned operations. 
  • Monitors work activities and ensures the quality of work performed. 

Technical 

  • Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents 
  • Coordinates engineering solutions with Subcontractors and Engineering

Qualifications

  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree and 13+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with all phases of construction operations relating to field activities of all disciplines, all construction technologies and job-site management.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H)
  • Knowledge of project-specific environmental compliance requirements and general awareness of environmental laws.
  • Knowledge of government compliance standards.
  • Heavy industrial / Chemical Facility construction experience is required. 
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and other standard applications.
  • Knowledge of project Quality Assurance program.
  • Working knowledge of Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs)
