Empowerment Academy Charter School is hiring an Academic Operations Specialist to work at the Elementary School. This is for an immediate vacancy.
Base Salary: $70,000-$85,000
Location: Empowerment Academy Elementary School (240 Ege Ave)
Hours: 7:00am - 3:30pm
Reports To: Campus Principal
Works Closely With: Dean of Assessment and Data, Director of Operations, Director of IT, Principal

Position Overview
An Academic Operations Specialist (AOS) supports a Principal overseeing one of Empowerment Academy’s three campuses. By working with the Principal to design, implement, and operate efficient systems supporting the campus’s academic operations, the AOS enables the Principal to focus increased attention on education program improvement and faculty professional development.
Key Responsibilities
Information Systems Mastery and Management
- Master the school's primary information systems
- Under the supervision of the Principal and the Director of Information Technology, help facilitate system integrations with external application vendors
- Oversee teacher training in how to use school systems and instructional software
- Ensure that classroom software and technology aligns with administrative objectives.
- Liaison with Information Technology staff to troubleshoot information system issues
Class Scheduling
- Under the supervision of the Principal, create class and student schedules
- Manage add/drops and class changes
- Create schedules for new students
- Accurately input schedules into the school information system
Class Coverage
- Coordinate substitute teacher assignments to ensure classes are covered when teachers are absent
- Coordinate longer-term coverage when openings develop, such as when teachers go on leave
Benchmark and NJSLA Test Scheduling and Support
- Under the Supervision of the Dean of Assessment and Data (ASD), schedule major benchmark and NJSLA assessments
- Maintain an inventory of test materials and ensure that teachers and students have the necessary supplies and equipment (e.g., Chromebooks, document cameras and recording equipment) for major test events
- Schedule and oversee test makeup sessions for missed exams
- Print and distribute tests to teachers on testing days
- Backup the ASD, as necessary:
- Generating reports after test completion
- Assisting teachers with data analysis
- Completing state reports related to student assessment data
School Event Scheduling and Coordinating
- Under the supervision of the Principal and in collaboration with diverse faculty members, schedule and help coordinate special events, field trips, afterschool programs and school functions
New Faculty Induction
- Assist with new employee orientation, focusing on account setup, ID badge distribution, and provision of orientation materials
- In coordination with Division Directors, provide new employee select induction trainings
Liaison with the Departments of Administration and Operations
- Under the supervision of the Principal, liaison with supervisors in the Department of Administration and the Department of Operations relating to academy needs (e.g., regarding food, custodial and security services)
- Track the completion of requests and follow-up as necessary
- Provide updates and the status of requests to interested academy leaders and faculty
Support the Effective Design and Implementation of School Wide Systems
- As guided by the Principal, assist in the design and implementation of academy systems (e.g., relating to lunch, arrival/dismissal, and so forth)
- Help staff create trackers for monitoring staff and student data that is to be input into the school’s information systems
Qualifications
Making day-to-day academic operations as effective and efficient as possible is critical to overall school effectiveness and student learning. It is accordingly important that a candidate:
- 3+ years of experience working in a school;
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) from an accredited university or college;
- Be a highly motivated and resourceful individual who works well with others and is equally happy being supervised; supervising others and working collaboratively as part of a team;
- Possesses extremely strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Be a quick learner when working with specialized data management and application systems;
- Be proficient in Google Docs, Microsoft Excel, and other office programs;
- Be someone with an attention to detail who without prodding reviews their work to catch and correct errors.
