Job Title: Benefits Specialist, North America (Contact - 4 to 6 months)

Location: Houston, Texas – US


Job Summary:

The Global Benefits Specialist assists with the ongoing benefits administration activity, vendors, regulatory and legal compliance efforts, and process improvement efforts for the administration and design of all benefit plans. The Global Benefits Specialist also helps deliver benefits education and communications materials and tools.


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day-to-day benefits administration for US and Canada
  • Reviews and responds to emails timely from general email box as applicable.
  • Reviews and responds to Remedy Ticket requests assigned as well as creates requests related to issues as applicable.
  • Liaise with carriers, vendors, brokers, and consultants for assistance and respond to requests as applicable.
  • Review learning new hire benefits reports daily and HRIS new hire benefits events if applicable.
  • Assist with Leave of Absence Process US and Canada as applicable.
  • Qualifying Life Events review documents provided are complete and acceptable, process updates in HRIS, respond to the employee and update carriers if urgent need as applicable.
  • Completing benefits enrollment in HRIS system for Canadian employees and providing completed forms to appropriate carrier and payroll as applicable.
  • Overage dependent notification for US and Canada benefits review and process monthly as applicable.
  • Audit payroll deductions each payroll for accuracy report any issues timely as applicable.
  • Process and Submit HSA to vendor after each payroll as applicable.
  • Review and confirm amounts for 401k funding prior to submission after each payroll.
  • Review HR termination file weekly in HRIS as applicable for benefits impacts.
  • Review and audit terminations for retirement plans US and Canada on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with 401k Annual Audits and Internal Audits as applicable.
  • Review and submits monthly billing for vendors as applicable.
  • Action benefits related HRIS activities such as new hire benefits suspended events, termination events, and any action items. Develop ways to automate processes and improvements when applicable. Test HRIS system when advised to for every upgrade related to benefits and provide feedback along with notes for any issues.
  • Collaborate and assist with process improvement and change efforts for all benefit plans. Review and document all processes and make improvements to be more efficient and customer focused.
  • Assist with open enrollment process.
  • Help review and develop education and communication programs to successfully market and explain the benefits. This includes portal, preparation, delivering presentations, new colleague orientation, and specialized communications. Work with vendors for development, packaging and distribution of benefit materials.
  • Partner with internal groups (i.e. HRIS, payroll, legal, accounting, treasury, accounts payable) for timely and accurate benefits administration.
  • Educate HR department members on applicable compliance, procedures, and policies as applicable. Provide benefit technical guidance with HR.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years experience with Canada and US benefits
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
