Medical Bill Review Coder/Analyst

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, seeks qualified Medical Bill Review Analysts/Coders interested in expanding their career opportunities. We are seeking high-quality hospital coders to help us build a best-in-industry national operation. Coding analysts will employ critical analysis and coding skills to review inpatient and outpatient records for appropriate fee schedule and PPO reductions. This individual will be provided training in workers’ compensation rules and regulations, as well as industry and proprietary programs and systems. 



ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  •  Efficiently reviews medical bills and data reports for data accuracy as well as for completeness.
  •  Examines bills for legibility and takes appropriate action to ensure accuracy of documentation.
  •  Accurately identifies data from claim information.
  •  Identifies and enforces jurisdictional regulatory billing standards and Company standards.
  •  Proactively communicates to the supervisor any problems or issues that may adversely impact a client or the company directly.
  •  Ensures work is performed in accordance to Company standards, training, and supervisory direction to ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory standards.
  •  Fosters a positive and close working relationship with Company staff, including Claims Adjusting, Utilization Review, Resolution Unit, Special Investigations Unit, Legal, Nurse Case Management, Call Center, and Client Services.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • EDUCATION: Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent certificate required. Associates Degree (A.A.) or higher from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • CERTIFICATIONS: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) with the American Academy of Professional Coders, or equivalent certification, highly preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE: Prior experience in the field of medicine, including medical building, highly preferred.
  • TECHNICAL SKILLS: Ability to master regulatory requirements and best practices for coding and workers compensation bill review in assigned jurisdictions. Proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite software and quickly master proprietary and vended software applications.
