Job DescriptionAs a Machine Learning Scientist, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside industry experts researching, developing, and applying cutting-edge machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms to build innovative technologies, services, and products that solve the company's hardest problems and accelerate Best Buy's core growth. In this role you will combine your software engineering skills and knowledge of ML and AI algorithms to contribute to a team developing and operationalizing models, algorithms, and production quality codebases that form the core engines that unleash the next generation of customer experiences and transform the way Best Buy operates day-to-day.This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days on site at a Best Buy location and some days virtually from home or other non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process. For this role, you must be located within a drivable distance to our office in Richfield, Minnesota, or Atlanta, Georgia.What you'll do• Develop Machine Learning solutions and services leveraging state-of-the-art techniques• Apply software engineering skills to develop and deploy solutions that can scale to millions of requests per second with millisecond latency• Utilize broad and deep knowledge of machine learning and software engineering to contribute to the roadmap of Best Buy's core machine learning capabilities• Build real products that influence and enhance the lives of millions of people and drive and deliver tens of millions of dollars in impact to Best Buy's bottom line• Have fun!Basic Qualifications• Bachelor's degree in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, Operations Research or related)• Strong machine learning and algorithmic background with a deep understanding of at least one of the following areas: supervised and unsupervised learning methods, deep learning and natural language processing• Ability to effectively communicate technical information to a wide spectrum of cross-functional team members• 2+ years of experience in designing and implementing natural language processing (NLP) driven solutions like search, recommendations and generative AI content• 2+ years of coding experience with Python• 2+ years of experience with massaging, cleaning, and standardizing tabular and free form text data to feed into an ML modelPreferred Qualifications• Master's degree or Ph.D in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, Operations Research or related)• 2+ years of experience in applying deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, MXNet or ONNX to solve NLP problems• Experience building & deploying ML products over GCP and/or AWS• Open source contributions or robust GitHub portfolio• Familiarity with state of the art sequence to sequence models; experience with transformer based architectureWhat is in it for youWe are committed to helping our people thrive at work and at home.
