Description:

We are seeking a 2023 summer intern for the MGH Asylum Clinic at the Center for Global Health. The MGH Asylum Clinic is a multidisciplinary team of MGB clinicians across Medicine, Peds, Neuro, Dermatology and health centers who volunteer their time to provide independent, forensic medical assessments of individuals seeking asylum based on a past history of physical or mental abuse. We’re one of the busiest asylum clinics in the country, providing no-cost services asylum seekers across Massachusetts, including resource coordination after evaluations are completed. The MGH Asylum Clinic intern will support the clinic’s administrative tasks, the creation of development materials, and have an interest in working with asylum seekers inside a global health context. This position may interest pre-med undergraduates or recent graduates.

Summer term: June-August (8 weeks), flexible start date

Preferred ability to be occasionally onsite with the MGH Asylum clinic team

Able to work remotely

Must be based in Massachusetts for duration of internship, even if remote

Responsibilities:

  • Support data collection and data administration through REDCap
  • Capture and build institutional knowledge into a running guide
  • Perform administrative tasks such as file organization through Microsoft 365
  • Effectively communicate with attorneys, clinicians, community stakeholders, and asylum seekers
  • Opportunity to join asylum medicine trainings, academic presentations, and involve yourself in global health


Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working directly with immigrants, asylum seekers or refugees
  • Data management through REDcap or similar data collection instruments
  • Background or interest in global health, human rights, asylum law, refugee advocacy, or immigrant health
  • Education- undergraduate student or higher
