As a Bioinformatics Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing bioinformatics algorithms and software solutions to analyze and interpret complex biological data. Your expertise will contribute to advancing research and development efforts in the field of genomics, computational biology, and population genetics.. You will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, including scientists, software engineers, and data analysts. This role role will report directly to the Manager of Bioinformatics Engineering.

Responsibilities

Bioinformatics algorithm development

  • You will design, develop, and optimize bioinformatics algorithms and workflows for analyzing and interpreting high-throughput data.

  • You will apply statistical and computational methods to analyze large-scale datasets, including next-generation sequencing (NGS) data

  • You will implement data preprocessing workflows, catalog data, and manage efficient access to and processing of data.

Software Development and Engineering

  • You will develop robust and scalable software solutions for bioinformatics data analysis

  • You will implement efficient data storage and retrieval mechanisms for large-scale biological datasets, leveraging databases and AWS technologies.

Pipeline Development and Automation

  • You will automate data processing, analysis, and visualization workflows, ensuring efficiency and consistency across multiple projects.

  • You will develop tools and frameworks to streamline data integration, annotation, and interpretation, facilitating data-driven insights and decision-making.

Collaboration and Cross-functional Communication

  • You will collaborate closely with scientists, researchers, and domain experts to understand their requirements and translate them into scalable bioinformatics solutions.

  • You will collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and biologists, to integrate bioinformatics components into larger research projects or products.

  • You will communicate complex bioinformatics concepts and methodologies to non-technical stakeholders

Data Analysis and Visualization

  • You will perform statistical analysis, data mining, and visualization of biological datasets

  • You will develop interactive and intuitive visualizations or dashboards

Quality Assurance and Documentation

  • You will conduct rigorous testing, validation, and quality control of tools, pipelines, and software solutions.

  • You will document methodologies, algorithms, and software implementations

  • You will stay updated with the latest advancements and technologies in all related fields

Qualifications

  • You have a degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field.

  • You have a minimum of 2 years in bioinformatics algorithm development, software engineering, data science, or a related role.

  • You have strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or Java, along with proficiency in Nextflow, Snakemake or similar.

  • You have experience with cloud computing, ideally AWS

  • You have experience with DevOps best practices and tools, including CI/CD, Git, IAC, Jenkins

  • You have experience with high-throughput data analysis, including NGS data, and/or microarray data.

As a signatory of the ParityPledge in Support of Women and the ParityPledge in Support of People of Color, Ancestry values pay transparency and pay equity. We are pleased to share the base salary range for this position: $104,400 - $154,530 with eligibility for bonus, equity and comprehensive benefits including health, dental and vision. The actual salary will vary by geographic region and job experience. We will share detailed compensation data for a specific location during the recruiting process.
