Position Summary:
The Education Department at Colorado College, a selective private liberal arts institution, invites applications for a block visitor to teach one summer course for the Master of Arts in Teaching - Dyslexia Specialist program. The visitor would teach ED540 Introduction to Dyslexia Intervention (July 10-28, 2023) from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Recognized as a state leader in preparing culturally sustaining educators, the Education Department at Colorado College focuses on social justice and examining education as a civic institution. We offer a two-year, intensive, Master of Arts in Teaching - Dyslexia Specialist to educators seeking to learn the most effective, research-based strategies of reading instruction, including instruction for students with dyslexia and related disorders. anti-racist institution as reflected in our curriculum, our pedagogy, and our values. Graduate students in the Dyslexia program are demographically and geographically diverse. Some are classroom teachers seeking a deeper understanding of structured learning. Others are reading interventionists, who desire to become reading specialists and dyslexia therapists. Our graduates use the degree to work for nonprofits, clinical institutions (e.g., Children's Hospital of Colorado), schools, and private practice. Colorado College operates under a unique academic model called the Block Plan where graduate students take one course at a time.
Minimum Qualifications: An earned Masters Degree in Education or a related field and expertise with the Take Flight curriculum. In addition, the ideal candidate will be CALT certified and has evidence of successful work with adult learners.
Preferred Qualifications: CALT-QI certification, experience in K-12 settings as a reading interventionist, and established record of contributing to institutional equity, inclusion-oriented initiatives, and interdisciplinary programming.
