Summer Marketing Intern

Blue J’s ambition is to be the world leader in generative AI for tax experts. We’re a B2B SaaS company whose customers are accountants and lawyers, and our AI-tax research software is widely regarded as the best in the market. We are racing ahead with an exciting product development roadmap to continue to delight our customers and to ensure that our users can generate the very best possible tax research answers in the service of their clients in record time.

We have recently hired a new VP of Marketing, and are expanding the scope of Blue J's marketing function. We have some exciting projects coming up throughout the summer, and are looking for a Summer Marketing Intern to support our team until the end of August, 2024.

Reporting to our VP, Marketing, the Summer Marketing Intern will support efforts across marketing. With a specific focus on marketing administration and event support, the Summer Intern will assist with tactics across all marketing functions, including digital and traditional channels. This role will provide an excellent opportunity to learn and build a strong foundation in marketing.

You'll get to work closely with and learn from two amazing marketing professionals, and get hands on experience at a growing AI scale-up. This is an entry level role, and the most important things we're looking for in our dream candidate are attention to detail, critical thinking, and initiative.

A note on location: We are excited to meet candidates and are grateful for everyone's interest. While this role is listed as hybrid, you'll have the option to go into our downtown-Toronto office, work remotely, or choose a mix of both! All applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

What You'll be Doing
  • Event Planning and Administration: Assist in organizing and coordinating events (virtual and third-party), including logistics, promotion, follow-up activities, and metrics.
  • Social Media Administration: Help manage social media accounts (LinkedIn, X, Facebook, and Instagram) by creating and scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and analyzing performance metrics.
  • Copywriting: Draft and edit content for marketing materials, including blog posts, social media updates, email campaigns, and website content.
  • Graphic Design Support: Assist in creating visual content for marketing campaigns, including graphics, infographics, and other visual elements.
  • Special Projects: Support on marketing related projects and administration as they arise.

Marketing Tech Stack
  • Webflow
  • HubSpot
  • Salesforce
  • Google Analytics 4
  • Google Search Console
  • Ahrefs
  • Google Ads
  • LinkedIn Advertising

Our Marketing tech is relatively easy to learn. Experience with these platforms is great, but is not required.

A Bit About You
  • You have graduated from a post-secondary institution with a bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Marketing, Statistics or a related field OR you are in the process of completing a degree in one of these fields
  • You’re a perfectionist – you’re highly detail oriented: you catch typos, notice inconsistencies, and make sure that processes are properly followed
  • You’re a critical thinker – when you encounter a problem, you immediately start thinking of solutions
  • You take initiative – if you see something that needs to be done, you do it
  • You have strong communication skills and you’re a collaborative team player
  • You have a basic understanding of the functions across marketing
  • You have experience using the Microsoft 365 suite of tools
  • It would also be great if you have some experience in copywriting and content development, graphic design (Canva and Adobe Creative Suite), and social media best practices, but this is not required

A Bit About Us
  • We offer a competitive hourly wage
  • Throughout the summer, we have Summer Fridays, which means if you get your work done by 1pm on Fridays, you can sign off for the afternoon!
  • We're a start-up, but we genuinely offer work-life balance in all departments and at all levels. We believe that everybody wants to have time for the activities and people we love outside of our work, and that we all want to love our work. These interests are compatible, and our approach to time off reflects that. You'll get to work with our amazing team, and also enjoy your summer!
  • We are taking an exciting, highly anticipated new product into an untapped market at a time when there is a huge amount of buzz around the type of work that we do. You’ll have the opportunity to see what it's like to work at a growing organization, and play a meaningful role in our expansion plans throughout the summer.
  • We have great people - you'll get to learn from two amazing colleagues on the marketing team who will be committed to making sure you get the most out of your internship.
  • We’re mission-driven and motivated by success, but we’re friendly, we’re collaborative, and we care about each other. We’ve got all those start-up perks, and are intentionally building a culture where you can play ping pong, feel safe to be yourself at work, and kick off your career in marketing!

  • We put the team interest before self-interest
  • We are pleasant and playful

Interview Process
  • 30 min meeting with our Chief of Staff and Head of People and Culture, Rose Duggan, for us to learn about your fit for the role, and for you to learn about Blue J and ask any questions
  • 30min meeting with Laura Sweet, our VP of Marketing, to learn about what you'll be doing, for us to understand your experience and your goals, and to ask any questions about life at Blue J!

All candidates who meet with our team will be given personal feedback if we determine there is not a fit. Rose will be available to chat at any point in the interview process if you have questions or need assistance :)

We are so grateful for your interest in this role! We will do our very best to get back to all applicants within 2 weeks.

We look forward to meeting you and learning about how you can help us grow!
