Bookkeeper + HR Assistant

As the Bookkeeper + HR Assistant at Unison, you will oversee the general accounting, along with being the primary lead with HR compliance and management of records. You will be tasked with recording and coding all invoices and executing statement reconciliations, along with maintaining filing and clerical handling. In addition, you will be the point person for staff and managers regarding HR policies and compliance. We are looking for an excellent communicator with keen attention to detail and exceptional organization skills.

Our ideal candidate is someone who can work independently and is a self-starter who also enjoys working in a close team environment. Furthermore, the individual must possess working knowledge of both basic accounting principles and HR matters. This position is Part Time with onsite requirement. Role + Responsibilities

  • Perform general accounting with QuickBooks Online: A/P, A/R, Bank and Credit Card Reconciliations, and Journal Entries.
  • Monitor bank accounts for activity and funding. Prepare and execute domestic and international wires, cash deposits, and transfers.
  • Record use taxes for the state and city. Provide reporting to Accounting Manager for filing.
  • Prepare and execute bi-monthly company payroll via QuickBooks Online along with related State, Unemployment, and Federal Taxes.
  • Record and monitor annual PTO, Health, and Transit Benefits.
  • Ensure HR compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and ensure that HR policies are being applied consistently.
  • Spearhead and maintain HR initiatives, including setting up a new retirement plan, and coordinating team training in partnership with management.
  • Responsible for managing filing systems, supply requisitions, and handling of clerical functions.
  • Provide administrative support to CEO and leadership team.
  • Assist with companywide projects and operational duties, as needed. As a small but growing retailer, Unison is searching for team members that have an all-hands-on-deck mentality.
  • Part Time position, onsite.

Required Skills + Experience

  • Must have 3+ years of experience in Bookkeeping or Accounting.
  • Knowledgeable and comfortable with HR matters.
  • Experience with QuickBooks strongly preferred, but not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including experience creating Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP function.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong attention to detail, positive attitude, ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment, with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Experience in home goods/furniture, ecommerce, or start-up environment is a plus.
  • Maintain professional appearance and dependable reliability during hours of operation.

Schedule

Part Time position at 24 hours per week. Hours of operation are 8:30am - 5:00pm Monday through Friday in our Chicago Headquarters at 5480 N. Elston Avenue.
