Website: BVSD.Location: US:CO:BOULDERDepartment: TransportationPosition Title: Bus DispatcherPosition Start Date: September 19, 2024Position Type: Unit C-TransportationFTE: 1.0 - 40 hours per week - Regular, ongoingPay Range:*$27.80 - $32.24Closing Date: September 12, 2024Our People Are Our Strength in BVSDSummary:Dispatchers hold responsibility for and/or assist in setting up routes, assigning trips, assigning substitutes to cover absent operators, and maintain complete and accurate records of buses and operators. Dispatchers assure that drivers are assigned to provide service to all routes and trips, that drivers understand the assignments and provide a point of contact for communication between drivers, parents, school personnel and students.Responsibilities:• Responsible for routing, assignment of driver and assistants to routes, trips and special services.• Uses computerized routing system, GPS software, and student information system to obtain route information, print route sheets, and monitor bus operations.• Maintain an up-to-date daily log of all assignments for regular and relief operators, assign substitutes to cover absent operators, and provide maps and instructions to all operators.• Keeps up-to-date maps for all operator assignments, performs periodic inspections of operator route guides for accuracy and completeness.• Answers telephone and radio calls.• Maintains security of the terminal through locking/unlocking gates and doors.• Serves as liaison between operators, students and parents. Documents all complaints and provides such documentation to the Terminal Supervisor for resolution.• Performs clerical duties as required including, but not limited to, calculating time sheets, mileage reports and other related work.• Serves as a substitute Bus Operator as needed (refer to the Bus Driver job description for responsibilities of the position).• Performs any other related work as required. Duties are at all times subject to review, delegation or reassignment.Qualifications:Required:• High School Diploma or equivalent.• Minimum of one year experience as a School Bus Operator.OR• Minimum of one year in a dispatcher role.• Complete and submitted BVSD online application.• Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.• Must pass pre-employment/post offer physical examination upon hire.• Currently hold a valid Colorado Driver's License.• Possess or obtain a Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class B with P and S endorsement no airbrake restriction; required within 60 days of hire.• Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC) required within 60 days of hire.• Submit a current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and must be insurable and maintain insurability per Colorado School Districts Self Insurance Pool (CSDSIP) standards.• Computerized routing system; must acquire working knowledge within probationary period• Must maintain all required certifications throughout employment.Preferred:• Knowledge of BVSD geography and boundaries, knowledge of Transportation Department rules, policies, and procedures• Strong written and verbal communication skills.• Ability to work a flexible schedule.• Experience in overseeing and coordinating dispatch or logistics operations and personnel.• Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.Salary Information:Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.• Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule). BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process. This information is provided in compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and is the company's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation range and benefits offered for this position. The compensation offered to the successful applicant may vary based on factors including experience and education.
