Backend Software Engineer III

Box is a leading Intelligent Content Management platform enabling organizations to manage content lifecycle and transform workflows with enterprise AI. They seek experienced Backend Software Engineers III to build scalable backend services and APIs, collaborate across teams, and drive the evolution of their backend architecture.

Skills

Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++
Experience building backend systems in production
Knowledge of distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and service-oriented architectures
Database experience with SQL and/or NoSQL
Strong understanding of systems design, data structures, and algorithms
Familiarity with CI/CD, containerization, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

Design and implement scalable backend services, APIs, and microservices
Write clean, testable, and efficient code across the software stack
Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, DevOps, and data teams to solve complex problems
Own and evolve key parts of the backend architecture
Review code, mentor junior engineers, and raise engineering standards
Improve performance, reliability, and observability of existing systems
Participate fully in the software development lifecycle

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
