Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Lead Engineer to join our team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for building our initial product from the ground up while contributing to the strategic direction of the company. You’ll collaborate closely with the CEO and cross-functional teams to turn vision into reality. As the product evolves, you will recruit and lead a small, high-performing engineering team, but remain hands-on, building the product and driving technical excellence.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in startup environments, has full stack engineering expertise, and is passionate about contributing as both an individual contributor (IC) and a leader.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Development: Build and maintain the initial version of our responsive web application, ensuring it meets high standards of performance, scalability, and reliability.
Hands-On Engineering: You will build our product from the ground up and collaborate with external resources as necessary to make good long term decisions about our architecture. We currently have an MVP built by a top notch outsourced engineering team with the expectation that it's built to learn. You will scrap this and build a new product from scratch based on our initial learnings.
Collaboration: Work closely with the product, design, and business teams to align engineering efforts with company goals and customer needs.
Team Building: As the company grows, recruit, mentor, and lead a small, agile engineering team. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and high performance.
Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction and guidance, making critical architectural and design decisions to ensure the success of our product.
Startup Experience: Leverage your startup experience to navigate challenges, drive innovation, and contribute to the overall strategy and growth of the company.
Qualifications:
Full Stack Expertise: Extensive experience as a full stack engineer, with proficiency in both front-end and back-end technologies. You should be comfortable building across the stack and have a strong grasp of modern frameworks and tools (e.g., React, Node.js, etc.). The primary focus for this role is back-end development, as we are hiring a dedicated front-end design and engineering resource.
Product Insight: Must possess strong product sense, with the ability to understand how all the pieces of the design and engineering work together and will be built. Provide critical and timely feedback to drive decisions on the UX design of the product.
AI Integration: Experience using AI resources such as ChatGPT, Cursor, etc., to enhance product performance and team productivity, keeping the team lean and focused.
AI Product Experience: Our application will integrate significant AI features for clients, and you should have experience building and/or integrating existing models into tools, or a strong interest in learning.
Leadership Skills: While not a manager-first, you have experience leading and mentoring small teams and are passionate about building a culture of innovation and productivity.
Communication Skills: You excel at conveying complex technical concepts in a clear, concise manner to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Startup Experience: You have a demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced, unstructured environments and are comfortable wearing multiple hats.
Strategic Thinker: You can balance short-term execution with long-term strategic thinking, helping the company scale effectively.
