Associate Scientist in Discovery Biology - Immunology

The Immunology and Cardiovascular (ICV) Thematic Research Center (TRC) at BMS is one of the fundamental Research and Early Development (R&ED) units delivering therapeutics to patients. Our mission is to create transformative medicines of tomorrow based on the cutting-edge science of today. We leverage BMS’s internal innovation engine that includes industry-leading expertise in small molecule chemistry, protein biotherapeutics, cell therapy, protein degradation, nucleic acids, and other therapeutic modalities. We work closely with our R&ED colleagues in clinical and non-clinical development, project leadership, translational medicine, and informatics to advance therapies based on a deep understanding of causal human biology. Furthermore, we collaborate across the biopharmaceutical ecosystem to establish partnerships that complement our internal expertise.

We are looking for an Associate Scientist to join the Discovery Biology Immunology team located in Lawrenceville, NJ. The position will utilize cellular, biological, biochemical and immunological techniques to validate novel targets in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases as well as support lead identification and optimization of both large and small molecules against immunological targets. Broad expertise in cellular biology is required with preference given to candidates with demonstrated experience in primary human and murine immune cells systems.

The position is a hands-on, laboratory-based role. The candidate is expected to be able to plan, design, develop methodologies and execute experiments according to plans and protocols with appropriate supervision.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

    • 2+ years of academic and / or industry experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in immunology, biology, biochemistry or biological science with 2-4 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 0-3 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in primary human and mouse immune cell isolation, propagation and immune cell-based functional assays is required (e.g. T cells, B cells, myeloid cells, co-culture assays and other primary cell assays)

  • Hands on experience with a wide range of in vitro cellular and biochemical assays, including, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, ELISAs, reporter assays

  • Experience in flow cytometric analysis, measurement of cell surface receptors and phosphoproteins by multicolor FACS across different platforms is strongly desired

  • Proficiency in scientific computer programs including Microsoft Excel, GraphPad Prism, and FlowJo

  • Must be able to design and conduct experiments based on protocols, trouble-shooting outcomes and adaptively designing follow-up experiments with minimal supervision

  • Possess a high level of critical thinking, high energy, independence, a strong desire to learn new techniques, and the ability to work in a highly dynamic research organization

  • The successful candidate will have clear and concise verbal and written communication skills and be able to give scientific presentations to diverse audiences

  • Meticulous record keeping, and strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail are must have requirements
