Within SMDD our Lead Discovery and Optimization (LDO) team is responsible for high throughput screening, compound storage and distribution, primary assays to support discovery programs, and compound profiling to explore drug liabilities in vitro. LDO scientists discover and adopt cutting edge assay technologies that utilize state-of-the-art automation to drive speed and efficiency. Our Molecular Structure and Design team embraces novel approaches to computer-aided drug design, machine learning, and structural biology. The integration of these disciplines provides a seamless and highly interactive environment for discovery scientists to learn, develop, and innovate. Working in partnership with our disease area experts in the Thematic Research Centers provides an exciting pathway to discover and deliver medicines to patients in need.Lead Discovery and Optimization (LDO) is a dynamic organization that supports the entire continuum of drug discovery from lead identification to clinical candidate delivery at Bristol Myers Squibb. LDO leverages state of the art technologies, complemented by deep subject matter expertise and broad scientific knowledge, to deliver innovative and comprehensive preclinical in vitro datasets to support our drug discovery pipeline in disease areas such as oncology, immunology, cardiovascular diseases, neuroscience and cell therapy.Redwood city LDO is seeking a highly motivated and innovative scientist to support lead discovery and optimization in oncology, immunology, cardiovascular disease biology areas. Applicants must have a deep scientific understanding in one of the disease biology areas described above or related field and have hands-on experience developing complex cellular assays. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be required to develop phenotypic assays and to perform medium-throughput phenotypic screening, hit assessment and lead optimization. The incumbent should possess strong collaborative and written/verbal communication skills and a positive attitude to interact with multiple stakeholders. This is a lab-based position. The incumbent should demonstrate personal leadership within LDO, scientific leadership both at the bench and with data analysis and be adept at multi-tasking.Job Responsibilities• Develop physiologically relevant complex cellular models, including complex co-culture assays, human derived iPSC, primary cells, or other 3D culture models.• Establish robust protocols in generating iPSC derived cardiomyocytes which would support various cardiovascular programs. Run cell-based assays for SAR with the established cardiomyocytes and perform molecular profiling on primary cells.• Design scalable assays with translationally relevant functional readouts, including phenotypic assays using high content screening (HCS), multi color flow cytometry or other cutting-edge readout technologies, and apply the assays for high-throughput screening.• Develop compelling scientific presentations and reports for internal review meetings and scientific journals.• Act as point of contact with program teams, Data Analytics and Discovery IT colleagues.• The scientist will work in a multidisciplinary environment and is expected to collaborate effectively with other members.• Demonstrate strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex data.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree with 5+years of academic or industry experienceOrMaster's Degree with 3+ years of academic or industry experienceOrPhD and No years of experiencePreferred Qualification :• PhD in oncology, immunology, neuroscience or cardiovascular biology or related field; 1-2 years of post doc experience would be a plus.• Proven expertise with complex cellular assays is a must.• Hands-on experience with experimentation using disease-relevant cellular models, such as co-cultures, primary cells, human derived iPSC, 3D cultures, is required.• Experience in generating iPSC derived cardiomyocytes is preferred.• Prior experience with cell-based assays for screening, hit triage, SAR is required.• Knowledge/experience with phenotypic screening and hit de-convolution is a plus.• Hands-on experience with HCS or flow cytometry and associated data analytics is desirable.• A strong publication record in relevant disease biology or cell biology is desirable.• A strong desire to succeed in cross-functional teams to establish productive collaborations.• Demonstrated excellence in both written and oral communication.The starting compensation for this job is a range from $97,000 - $135,300 plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.
