Head of Field Engineering

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our R&D engineering team has spent the past 5+ years building the most advanced construction robots on the planet, and your job is to put them to work. This includes everything from managing tools and inventory, to mobilizing robots, to training Robotic Equipment Operators (REOs), and finally to building strong relationships with jobsite leaders and senior construction executives. Success is deploying robots faster than our hardware team can build them.

To achieve this goal, you’ll spend significant time in the field, managing robot deployments on large solar projects. You’ll build a team of Robot Deployment Leads to handle day-to-day robot supervision, including kitting baskets, creating pile plans, and working with customers to ensure that there are no obstacles to robot production.

You’ll also provide a critical link from the field back to our R&D engineering team, working to fix issues as they arise in the field, and to ensure that more complicated bugs are fixed offline. In addition, your field experience will help surface new opportunities, feature-adds and product enhancements. By combining a broad technical understanding of the product and boots-on-the-ground intuition, you’ll play a central role in crafting our overall company strategy.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Develop a thorough, firsthand understanding of running our robots in the field
  • Become expert in solar pile driving and related construction activities
  • Create and maintain an inventory process to ensure that all the supplies your team depends on are always available, in good working order, and properly organized
  • Win the hearts and minds of of site teams by delivering great results reliably, and doing it with an approachable, down-to-earth attitude
  • Create and maintain a structured customer engagement process, ensuring that all the information we need to be successful is centrally located and up-to-date, and that we’re sharing information back out to customers in a timely fashion
  • Work with customers to clearly define success, course correct when necessary, and create and articulate value – ultimately leading to account expansion and further robot deployments
  • Create a repeatable sales engine that qualifies customers, deploys robots, and expands accounts
  • Lead from the front – demonstrate construction hustle every day
  • Develop a deep understanding of our product, both technically and commercially, and identify opportunities for expansion and diversification

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS in a technical field
  • 5+ years of experience working in a sales or field role, especially within the construction sector
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong business intuition and knowledge of financial modeling and business operations
  • Willingness to be in the field on a weekly basis
  • Excellent hands-on technical ability (e.g. prototype design, fabrication, wiring)
  • Proven track record of making safety a top priority
  • Ability to create clear processes and maintain documentation
  • Adaptability to work in new situations and do what it takes to get the job done
  • Competent at driving trucks and able to lift 60 lbs
  • Valid US driver's license

COMPANY PERKS
  • Competitive salary and equity
  • 100% employer-sponsored health, dental and vision insurance — for you, your spouse and children
  • 401(k) with employer matching
  • Paid holidays and flexible PTO
  • TSA PreCheck
  • Gym membership
  • Free catered lunch and plenty of snacks
  • A pair of steel-toe boots
