Summary of Position

Under general supervision, provides on-going business analysis support for a suite of complex business information systems in order to improve and enhance business operations. Participates in a wide variety of projects and/or application implementation plans with a focus on improving and enhancing business operations through effective business analysis. Works under the guidance and direction of a manager or higher level analysts on highly complex projects. Provides general support and analysis of data via SQL throughout the project life. Develops a solid understanding of how an application works including day-to-day work-flow analysis and design. Queries and analyzes data stored in a database using SQL to identify operational workflow(s). With some direction and support in establishing methodology and project scope, identifies issues, analyzes data, proposes and implements solutions, and monitors and tracks results. Works with departments to develop and implement workflow/operational changes and determine system configuration. May provide support to higher level analysts or serve as a team member on complex projects. Typically reports to manager or director.


Essential Functions


  • Assists in defining business requirements, participating in the development of system design and architecture, communicating functional specifications, performing user acceptance testing and validation, defining interface triggers and data mapping criteria, working on go live planning and post implementation audits, and setting up user dictionaries and master files. Often works under guidance or general direction in achieving these deliverables. May work with system analysts to achieve these goals.
  • Works with the user group on trouble shooting problems and resolving operational questions and data anomalies. Interacts and communicates with appropriate internal customers regarding status, value and timing of the implementation of operational and systematic changes. Acts as resource and liaison for internal customers answering questions and soliciting information to gain an understanding of workflow issues and possible areas of concern. Answers most questions and provides guidance in workflow analysis but refers complex issues to manage or higher level analysts.
  • Utilizes reports, audits or other methods to assess, analyze and evaluate opportunities for improvement in the areas of workflow operations and data integrity. Notes areas of concern and brings them to the attention of the department manager. May recommend and effect needed changes.
  • Under the guidance and direction of the manager and/or project leader, conducts workflow analysis and identifies business inefficiencies, develops and implements processes and procedures to ensure the standardization of operations and minimize areas of inefficiency.
  • Participates in the development of on-going documentation of efforts and analysis of final results including feasibility studies, cost/benefit analysis, functional specification, workflow development, test plans and scripts. Receives some guidance in developing and selecting the methodology to be used for the analysis.
  • Participates in developing training plans from operations and business analysis. Leads and conducts training sessions in a group or individual setting. Prepares all materials and system setup for the training session. Ensures that employees who need the training sessions are registered for the appropriate training.
  • Works with IT or Bus. Inf. Systems Analysts, building and maintaining features within the business information systems to improve workflow. Evaluates impact of system change or organizational change(s) on operations within company operating departments from clinical and/or financial perspectives. Works with department staff to implement workflow changes as necessitated by system changes.
  • Supports activities pertaining to the streamlining of functionality and operational workflow.
  • Provides project management support for department projects at the direction of the manager and/or project leader
  • May participate in meetings or subgroups.
  • Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements


Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or health care administration (or equivalent education, training or experience).
