What does a BDR do?

A Business Development Representative (BDR) is a sales role responsible for identifying and qualifying potential leads or prospects for a company's products or services. BDRs typically engage in outbound prospecting activities, such as cold calling, email campaigns, and social media outreach, to generate interest, set appointments, and initiate sales conversations with potential customers. BDRs often work closely with the sales and marketing teams, conducting market research, building relationships with prospects, and nurturing leads to ultimately drive revenue growth for the business.

Being a Business Development Representative (BDR) can serve as a launching pad for various career opportunities within the sales, marketing and leadership fields of business.

Position Summary

During your apprenticeship with Catalyte, you will develop and hone your foundational skills in Sales under the tutelage of experienced sellers and work on real projects within the BDR capacity.

You will learn to proactively identify and engage with potential customers, qualify leads, and initiate sales conversations. We will hone your skills in prospecting, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building. BDRs learn to navigate sales tools and technologies, conduct market research, analyze customer needs, and work closely with sales and marketing teams. BDRs also develop resilience, adaptability, and time management skills as they handle rejection, manage a high volume of outbound activities, and prioritize tasks to meet sales targets. Overall, being a BDR equips you with the foundational skills and knowledge needed to excel in sales, marketing, business development, and other related roles.

The ideal candidate possesses excellent communication, active listening, adaptability, resilience, and relationship-building skills, along with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Typical BDR Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Generate new business pipeline primarily through prospecting outbound opportunities
  • Gain interest through outbound cold calling to build new logos
  • Partner with core seller to identify and source net new pipeline and assist by researching lines of business and personas
  • Work on new leads entering our system by identifying, qualifying, cleansing, and keeping up-to-date information within each record managed across various internal systems.
  • Cultivating personalized messages and approaching customers through follow-up emails/calls/any other form of communication.
  • Qualifying and generating interest to top tier accounts through email, LinkedIn Sales Nav, phone calls, and video messaging via our SEP (Salesloft.io)
  • Manage data for current and new prospects within our CRM (Salesforce), ensuring all qualified deals are logged, information is accurate, and documents are attached.
  • Conduct research to identify potential prospects and work with multiple sales team members to cleanse prospect lists.
  • Collaborating with colleagues concerning to creative strategies and market insights to bring in new opportunities
  • Work with the sales team to develop and grow the sales pipeline to consistently meet quarterly revenue goals.
  • Work along Consumer Insights Strategist to identify emerging verticals and to conduct data-driven communication.
  • Offering feedback to the company regarding new ideas, information, and business development needs
  • Shadow AEs to learn complex deal navigation and learn to effectively take a deal from opening to closing stages

Pay: $15.00 - $19.24 per hour
