Director of Product Marketing

We are looking for a strong Director of Product Marketing to build out and own the go-to-market strategy and execution for Butter. You’ll use both qualitative and quantitative insights about our customers, target markets, and product, turning them into comprehensive marketing initiatives that focus on driving brand acquisition, engagement and retention. You’ll be responsible for building out different user journeys, value propositions and creating narratives that resonate across verticals, personas, and market segments. This is a highly impactful role, and you’ll partner with multiple business stakeholders to drive alignment on overall product strategy and marketing programs. The ideal candidate is someone who has a track record of leading go-to market launches, integrated campaigns and can balance ambitious business results with a focus on our customer’s needs.


What you can expect to do
  • Product Marketing Leadership – Manage the Butter portfolio with a P&L ownership mentality. Proactively lead the charge in generating demand and driving ARR growth.
  • GTM strategy – Product - Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, Design, Engineering, and Customer Success, to ensure successful product launches with a clear and cohesive plan, which includes positioning, messaging, and promotional strategies.
  • GTM strategy - Demand - Collaborate across leadership and marketing counterparts to develop high-impact marketing campaigns, social media, email marketing, and content marketing; continually test and analyze campaign performance with your demand and brand counterparts and provide actionable insights and recommendations for optimization.
  • Competitive Intelligence – Develop an in-depth understanding of the competitive landscape and market dynamics, laying the foundation for a winning competitive positioning strategy.
  • Messaging and Positioning – Own and drive Butter’s market differentiation, create compelling customer value with messaging that is credible and resonates with target audiences
  • Thought Leadership – As a storyteller, convey value propositions and business benefits in language that speaks to customers across the spectrum, from individual contributors to C-level executives. Achieve this through diverse mediums such as website content, blogs, videos, ebooks, presentations, etc.
  • Evangelism – Serve as the spokesperson for Butter and evangelize internally, with customers, partners, and at conferences, CABs, user groups, etc.
  • Customer Advocate – Be the Voice of the Customer, immerse yourself in understanding customer needs, pain points, and opportunities, and reflect those in internal and external communication.
  • Sales Enablement – Create and maintain high-value sales tools (i.e. customer facing presentations, product solution guides, FAQs, etc.) that communicate the vision and value of Butter products and help win business.
  • Success Metrics Reporting – Define, track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) that show the impact of Product Marketing on achieving business goals.


Minimum qualifications
  • 10+ years’ of relevant work experience in SaaS, preferred experience in payments or subscription industry; previous work experience in Product Marketing or Product Management role required
  • Deep understanding of sales process and funnel, as well as demand generation
  • Strong leader and player with proven ability to lead cross-organizational alignment and projects to achieve business objectives.
  • Strategic mindset with a pragmatic attitude-ability to translate ideas into action, and manage multiple projects and priorities concurrently, while demonstrating creativity.
  • Strong business acumen, technical competency, intellectual curiosity, and ability to understand data and apply it to identify opportunities and solve problems.
  • Ability to bring new ideas to the table with a fresh perspective on portfolio marketing.
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Exceptional standards for quality in writing, speaking, and independent thought.


$160,000 - $190,000 a year

About Butter

Modern subscription companies accidentally lose up to 4% of their total customer base each year due to churn caused by legitimate payments failing (passive churn). These payments fail either because they are falsely detected as fraud or because of archaic systems in an aging payment ecosystem. Butter uses patented machine learning and artificial intelligence to deeply understand the real time state for any given payment and then optimizes for success. Butter offers a free assessment and trial to validate a customer’s found revenue opportunity, integrates with existing payment processors, and charges an ongoing success fee tied to revenue recovered. Butter typically recovers up to $1M or more of found revenue for our customers and gives 1% back to causes that support our mission of enabling anyone anywhere to have access to the things they deserve and need.


Butter is well funded by leading investors and offers a competitive benefits package including unlimited PTO, 401k, and comprehensive health insurance.
