The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment is comprised of two divisions: The Office of Film, Theatre, and Broadcasting, and NYC Media. The Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting serves as a one-stop shop for the entertainment industry and promotes New York City as a thriving center of creativity, issuing permits for productions filming on public property, and facilitating production throughout the five boroughs. NYC Media is the City’s official broadcast network and media production group, with programming that informs, educates, and entertains New Yorkers about the City's diverse people, neighborhoods, services, attractions, and activities..

The successful candidate will serve as a Camera Operator, reporting to the Supervisor of the Electronic Field Production Department. Responsibilities will include:
  • Operate Broadcast Television Cameras for coverage of all live or edited shows and events for NYC Media;
  • Cover live remote events, meetings and produced programming for NYC Media;
  • Participate in the production of various broadcasts of City Council Meetings and Special Events;
  • Demonstrate solid knowledge of workflow, equipment, facility layouts and troubleshooting practices, in order to successfully, load, transport setup and breakdown of appropriate equipment for the recording of various events;
  • Enter accurate information into records such as production schedules, equipment logs and inventories;
  • Work on a flexible schedule as required to meet fluid workloads;
  • Ensure optimal picture composition and correct audio for all events recorded by operator;
  • Handle special projects and initiatives as assigned.

Minimum Qual Requirements

Qualification Requirements
Six months of full-time satisfactory experience as a radio operator, broadcast technician, repairperson or mechanic in the field of radio, television or two-way communications or broadcast trainee in a broadcasting station or performing closely related work.

License Requirement
A Motor Vehicle license valid in the State of New York may be required for some assignments. This license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.

Special Note:
To be assigned to Assignment Level III the candidate must have, in addition to the requirements listed above, three years of satisfactory full-time experience as a broadcast technician (radio and/or television) which may include experience as a broadcast trainee in a broadcasting station.

Preferred Skills

The successful candidate should possess the following: A bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years’ experience in the broadcast production and post production environment; ability to clearly communicate to engineers, photographers, and producers and work in a team environment; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software, particularly Word, Excel and Visio; knowledge of HD video switchers, video servers, video decks, lower third construction from character generators, closed captioning protocols, Blackmagic VideoHub routers, Live-U Portable Uplink, and teleprompters; strong familiarity with Sony PXW-X400, robotic video cameras as well as Canon C200 4K Cinema cameras, and Sony A7RIII cameras; individual will be proficient with Sony XDcam, robotic camera equipment and video switchers; familiar with all phases of Television Broadcast Production including ATSC standards; proficient with location and studio lighting techniques; ability to lift up to 50 lbs;

Hours/Shift

Day - due to the necessary technical duties of this position in a 24/7 operation, candidate may be required to work various shifts such as weekends and/or nights/evenings.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
