SUMMARY & SCOPE: A Sr. Designer should be able to do the following on mid-size to large projects of intermediate to difficult complexity: Communicate with the project manager to understand the technical, commercial and schedule requirements of the project. Procure the needed specifications, reference documents, engineering drawings, and other documentation to prepare complete and accurate layouts, models, assemblies and detail drawings. Interact and communicate with other teams (sales, fabrication, shipping, etc.) effectively regarding project status, design issues, scheduling requirements and the like. Direct the efforts of designers and detailers assisting in the project.DEPARTMENT: Design REPORTS TO: Engineering & Design ManagerPOSITION CODE : 3524 JOB CODE : EN005LOCATION : Tucson, AZ REVISION DATE : 10.21.24PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:• Preparation of models and drawings from conceptual level to finished detailed shop drawings.• Determining and procuring all relevant documents required to develop a completed design.• Communicating to project managers, estimators, customers, or vendors, any critical project design issues.• Seeking assistance in areas that require engineering or certifications beyond the company's contractual requirements.• Serving as a resource to project managers/engineers/estimators by offering alternative or refined design options that may: reduce cost; improve efficiency; improve constructability; or improve processes.• Understanding the technical, commercial, and schedule requirements of the contract.• Establishing checks & balances for the project to ensure that design requirements are met.• Assisting in project design previews and reviews with the goal of facilitating handoffs to other teams.• Making regular in-process project reviews. Recommending corrective action when necessary.• Maintaining accurate records of design changes.• Engaging in self-directed learning for skill improvementRequirements:The ideal candidate would have advanced to expert SolidWorks skills, or the equivalent translatable skills from another parametric, solid modeler. Such skills would include sheet metal and weldment modeling. Beyond robust flexible modeling that reflects design intent, a senior designer would also be able to use middle out modeling techniques such as skeleton modeling, master modeling, or multibody modeling. The candidate would be able to make drawing sets that are complete, concise and clear, including the ability to break down processes into instructions, and devise simple jigs, fixtures, or templates to aid fabrication. All the above must happen in a fast-paced environment. Candidates with a demonstrable ability to use tools, and a familiarity with metal fabrication equipment and techniques would be preferred.Minimum Required Job Skills - Work Experience and EducationBS + 5 - 8 years' experience in related fieldEquivalent education and experience to demonstrate knowledge abilities in similar business segment• SolidWorks: A total of 7 years' experience, school + work or• ability to demonstrate proficiency of various SolidWorks functionality necessary for business segment design work• A working knowledge of AutoCAD a plus.• A CSWP (Certified SolidWorks Associate) certificate or candidate for CSWP; CSWE preferred.• Effective communication skills: written, verbal and ability to communicate to a varying audienceWORK ENVIRONMENT:Manufacturing environment: May be exposed to loud noises, changing temperatures, machinery with moving parts and exotic materialsITAR RESPONSIBILITIES:• Adhere to and abide by all ITAR-specific job standards and training.
