The Test Engineering Manager will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and executing test units to verify and validate key requirements at both the component and system levels. This hands-on position emphasizes close collaboration with engineers and technicians to develop detailed test plans, design and build hardware, operate units, collect data, and report on performance. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic startup environment, with a strong R&D focus, contributing significantly to both engineering and management aspects of the role.
Responsibilities- Conceptual Design: Collaborate with the team to conceptualize component tests and develop specifications and requirements for test units.
- Detailed System Design: Create detailed mechanical designs, 3D models, and electrical schematics; define sensor and data acquisition architectures.
- Test System Realization: Work with team members to construct mechanical systems using various fabrication techniques, build control cabinets, and integrate DAQ systems and software.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Commission test equipment, collect and analyze data, and generate comprehensive performance reports.
- Root Cause Analysis: Investigate data discrepancies, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
- Process Development: Develop and refine processes for verification and validation, enhancing efficiency while adapting to the agile nature of a startup environment.
- Documentation and Safety: Perform risk assessments and maintain high safety standards in prototype and plant operations; ensure all documentation complies with regulations and protocols.
Requirements- Hands-on Experience: Proven experience in building and commissioning first-of-a-kind systems, with a focus on mechanical design.
- Education: Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 8 years in relevant roles, with a strong emphasis on R&D and hands-on engineering.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in electrical schematic generation; familiarity with PFDs, P&IDs, PLCs, and Python.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to investigate software/hardware issues and implement corrective actions.
- Documentation & Communication: Experience writing test plans, procedures, and reports; strong organizational and communication skills.
- Team Management: Demonstrated leadership abilities, including motivating teams, fostering collaboration, and managing conflict.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to climb stairs/ladders, stoop, crouch, and handle equipment weighing up to 50lbs.
Desired Background- Industry Experience: Familiarity with carbon capture technology and industrial sensors such as flow meters, thermocouples, pressure sensors, and gas analyzers.
- Programming Experience: Knowledge of Beckhoff PLC hardware and process control techniques (e.g., PID control).
- Vacuum Systems: Experience in the installation, operation, and troubleshooting of vacuum systems, focusing on performance validation and leak detection.
- Instrumentation: Ability to select appropriate test instrumentation and DAQ equipment, with an understanding of metrology and uncertainty analysis.
- Safety Knowledge: Experience with high-voltage and high-pressure gas systems and related safety practices.
$135,000 - $155,000 a year
