Category Manager - Custom/Cutlery

As part of the Category Management team, your role and responsibility sit in the intersection between product development, marketing, and the sales channels/regions. You own the future! We are looking for strong, confident product minded business leaders to help us craft the products of the future! You will be responsible for developing business strategy via product to achieve net sales, net margin, inventory, and SKU productivity for assigned category.

You are supervising the NPI process and line creation and are responsible for the collection and vision of your area of expertise. You are providing relevant market feedback and analyze sell in and sell out data to better inform your collections and to drive authenticity. To enable smooth proactive product launches, you are creating and managing timelines, interfacing and collaboration between stakeholders and embedding yourself into your customer’s use cases and lifestyle. Assortment planning and sales channel connectivity is one of your measures to optimize customer/channel specific sell in needs. You are aiming to align seasonal plans across functions, to maximize sell in, sell out and contribution margin.

ABOUT CUTLERY/CUSTOM:
This role is more is about ownership of one of the most exciting channels in the Benchmade portfolio. The Cutlery and Custom business unit is all about creativity, personalization, and a digitally minded customer acquisition. We are looking to disrupt how you think about Cutlery and how you build a knife. From collabs to coloration, this role gets to paint with a broad creative brush that is reinforced by the business strategy that is foundational to where we want to go. If you like pushing the boundaries and want to be the leader of this fast growth, high impact DTC channel, we want you on our team!
Responsibilities:
  • Accompany the seasonal product dev process, driving, and speaking to the Product Launch tasks and responsibilities.
  • Presenting in milestone meetings to connect your product to profitability.
  • Aligning key franchises and seasonal focus products with relevant GTM/Sales stories and providing related quantity forecasts related to your Category.
  • Coordinating and executing strategic product creation of sell in assortments and merchandising to achieve fiscal year revenue targets in support of Sales.
  • Support Sales pre-season quantity forecasting for defined product categories/groups in alignment with financial revenue/margin targets.
  • Support the global seasonal pricing process in partnership with the Director of Product.
  • Drive customer specific SMU requests and management of channel exclusive products and capsule collections.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing or other related degree, and 5+ years of Product Management experience is required. Equivalency to the qualification standard will also be considered.
  • Thought leader who is able to build, drive and grow their vision into a reality.
  • Strong presentation skills and revenue based strategies that drive Product Team actions.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful budgeting/planning/forecasting.
  • Experience working with licensing and/or working with third-party brands.
  • Strong business orientation, analytical aptitude, and computer skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including meeting facilitation and presentations.
  • Stong information seeking skills and drive to make things happen.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Familiarity with Project Management software and applications a plus.
  • Familiarity and comfort working in and around outdoor category.
  • Ability to understand challenges or underlying concerns, share ideas, and develop effective responses or elevate to higher management.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a diverse group including conducting business in foreign countries.
  • Leadership capability, including ability to motivate and mentor others within a work group.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing, high-growth environment.

Working Conditions:
  • Working Environment: Office Position
  • Physical Demands: Lifting up to 25 lbs., sitting and talking on the phone and computer for long periods of time.
  • Travel Requirements: As needed, less than 5% of the time.
