Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is currently seeking a part-time Catering Wait Staff! The Catering Wait Staff serves food to patrons. Responsible for service set-up and clean up regarding guest service breakfast, lunch, and dinner events. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision.

**This position comes with a free class (up to 3 credits) at UVU after 6 months of consecutive work.**

Summary of Responsibilities

  • This position tends to guests and greets them when they enter and exit the Events. Takes plated meals, serves buffets for receptions and banquets, and delivers meals and amenities to designated drop-off locations. Clears all used service ware after every event and resets for the following events.
  • Responsible for setting up the dining room, including polishing the silverware, china, and glassware. Sets tables and chairs for service. Puts all the amenities on the table, such as salt, pepper, water, butter, bread, etc. Cleans and organizes dining room areas and auxiliary catering service areas. Sets-up beverages fountain or service and cleans them at the end of the shift.
  • Performs the different shore duties assigned by the manager, including washing service trays, clearing empty bottles from the kitchen, and wiping and organizing the servers working areas. Vacuum or mops the dining room and or service areas as needed. Takes all utensils, equipment, and china to wash area and occasionally assists custodial staff in cleaning up and storing dishes and small wares. Sets coffee service and cleans up the coffee maker and related service area at the close of the event. General cleaning and organization of all the working areas and related equipment utilized by the servers for and during service, including chairs, tables, floors, carpets, windows, and traffic areas. Attends to all other duties assigned by the Catering captain or Catering Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation with a high school diploma or GED.


Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Customer service, table service, and safe serve principles.
  • Must know commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a catering service practice.
  • The candidate must be able to read technical procedures and government regulations and written instructions and manuals.
  • Ability to read, add, divide, and multiply.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and work with various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret and act on multiple written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.
  • Ability to respond to questions from guests, co-workers, and supervisors.
