The Center for Disability Services is seeking a talented professional to join our team in Albany, NY, where you will design, develop, and test mechanical systems and components for assistive technologies—all with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Your work will help improve the lives of individuals with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development: Define and develop mechanical systems and requirements based on user needs and product goals.
Innovation & Testing: Create and execute robust testing methods to ensure the functionality, quality, and safety of mechanical components and systems.
Compliance & Documentation: Ensure designs meet federal and state regulations; maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design iterations and part catalogs.
Collaboration & Project Leadership: Work with multi-disciplinary teams to complete projects successfully while training and mentoring colleagues.
Equipment & Safety: Ensure equipment is maintained according to manufacturer instructions, while adhering to safety policies and standards.
What You’ll Bring
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field required; dual degree in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering is a plus.
Experience: Proven experience in mechanical engineering, including design, testing, and fabrication of mechanical systems.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in design software (e.g., CAD, SolidWorks)
Familiarity with mechanical systems (pneumatics, hydraulics, power transmission)
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tolerancing, and materials
Experience with programming (MATLAB, Python) is a plus
Strong foundation in data analysis and mechanical troubleshooting
Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
