Program Description:

 

The National Weather Service (NWS) Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD) Radar Operations Center (ROC) in Norman, Oklahoma, is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and modernization of the NEXRAD radar network, which is essential for the U.S.'s weather monitoring and forecasting. The ROC provides 24/7 technical support, oversees upgrades, and collaborates with research institutions and government agencies to enhance radar technology. It also manages the dissemination of critical radar data used for weather forecasting and severe weather alerts, ensuring the continued accuracy and reliability of this vital national infrastructure.

 

Centuria Corporation is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Entry-Level IT Technical Writer to join our team at the National Weather Service (NWS) Radar Operations Center (ROC). This role involves collaborating with both the in-house documentation and IT teams to develop, edit, and maintain a variety of technical documents, particularly related to IT systems, directives, and security policies.

 

Job Responsibilities:

·         Create, update, and maintain comprehensive documentation for IT systems, procedures, and security policies.

·         Collaborate with IT and security teams to ensure accurate representation of technical information.

·         Develop clear and concise technical directives, policies, and user guides for internal and external audiences.

·         Translate complex technical concepts into user-friendly documentation for a variety of stakeholders.

·         Ensure that all documents meet organizational standards and are in line with NWS ROC security and compliance regulations.

·         Manage version control and updates to documents as processes and systems evolve.

·         Assist in gathering information through interviews with subject matter experts (SMEs) and reviewing existing documentation.

·         Support the documentation of IT security policies and ensure compliance with federal security regulations.

·         Assist in preparing presentations, training materials, and other technical communications.

·         Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation processes and standards.


Job Requirements:

·         High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience is preferred.

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills.

·         Ability to quickly learn and document IT systems and processes.

·         Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.

·         Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

·         Basic understanding of IT terminology and concepts, especially related to security.

·         Familiarity with version control systems and documentation tools.

 

Preferred Skills:

·         Experience or coursework in technical writing or IT documentation.

·         Knowledge of or interest in IT security standards and best practices (e.g., NIST, FISMA).

·         Familiarity with diagramming tools like Microsoft Visio or similar.

·         Experience working in a technical or IT-focused environment.

·         Basic knowledge of HTML or other web technologies is a plus.

·         Experience with Adobe Acrobat and Google’s G-Suite (Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides).

·         Familiarity with cloud-based collaboration tools (Google Meet).
