The Department of Management in the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Kent State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair at the rank of Associate or Full Professor starting July 2024.
The successful candidate will be the chairperson of the Department of Management, https://www.kent.edu/business/management, which has been operating as an independent department since July 1, 2023. In addition to the chairperson, the Department of Management is home to eight tenure-track faculty and four full-time, non-tenure track faculty, including three faculty members with appointments on regional campuses. The department offers the BBA degree with majors in Business Management, General Business (both in-person and online) and Human Resource Management, multiple courses in the MBA programs (in-person, online and Executive MBA), and a concentration in the PhD program. Examples of Duties:
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Develop, update, implement, and coordinate teaching, research, and service missions of the department.
Oversee budgetary, personnel, and program activities of the department; coordinate faculty promotion, tenure, and reappointment reviews and make recommendations to College Dean.
Oversee development, implementation, and revision of new and existing academic programs; oversee curriculum development; coordinate faculty workloads; develop course schedule.
Represent and promote department within the University and external community.
Oversee student advising; may advise graduate and undergraduate students.
May oversee internship, scholarship, or grant programs.
May serve as building curator.
Serve on various department, division, and University committees.
Provide leadership and oversight of a large/complex department (e.g., department with multiple units).
Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in a relevant field; six years relevant experience; faculty rank as tenured associate professor or be qualified for such rank within the department.

Written and interpersonal communication
Ability To:
Provide leadership and direction; analyze situations and develop effective solutions
Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:
Candidates will have (i) an earned doctorate in strategic management or a closely related field, (ii) faculty rank as a tenured, full professor or be qualified for such rank within the department and (iii) leadership experience, consistent with rank, in internal service roles where high-quality research and teaching are the focus or significant contributions to the profession and experience mentoring doctoral students.
