The Chemistry Department at Bucknell University is seeking a Chemistry Supplies Coordinator. The Chemistry Supplies Coordinator maintains a well-organized stockroom that supports the chemistry department and other academic units; manages an up-to-date inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment needed for both teaching and research laboratories; serves as the department health and safety officer; and supervises student assistants.

Job Duties:
The Chemistry Supplies Coordinator orders chemicals, supplies, and equipment such that needed materials are available in a timely manner; manages a comprehensive inventory including location of all inventory materials using the university's inventory management system; tracks usage of routine items; receives & distributes deliveries and packages; tracks departmental expenditures and provides updates to the chair; and oversees repair of equipment. This person serves as primary liaison with the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and serves on the university's Safety Committee as well as ensuring the availability of SDS information. The Supplies Coordinator recruits, hires, trains and manages student employees to ensure safe and successful laboratory operation. Working closely with lab instructors, this person manages lab drawer assignments and the replacement system for broken or missing items. The Supplies Coordinator works with lab instructors and EHS to ensure the proper disposal of chemical/hazardous waste.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field.
  • A working knowledge of chemical principles related to (1) preparing reagents and chemicals for instructional purposes, (2) safe handling of chemicals and lab safety, and (3) hazardous waste disposal protocols.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse community of faculty, lab instructors, students, and staff.
  • Proficiency with standard computer software.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt to the ever-changing needs of an educational environment.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Purchasing experience

    Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs and to climb a ladder.

    Work Type:
    This position is a full-time, 12-month, benefits eligible, non-exempt staff position.

    This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.

    Salary Range:
    This is a Staff Non-exempt position with a hiring range of $18.14 to $22.68. The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
