PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide nurturance care and attention to each child (ages 2-5) in the program and maintain conduct according to the mission of Catholic Charities, Inc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Ensure that children are provided nurturing care and attention.

2. Ensure a feeding and changing schedule for the children.

3. Ensure that children maintain a structured routine for naps.

4. Ensure the daily lesson plans for children are implemented daily.

5. Plan and make creative, educational games and activities for the children.

6. Keep floor spaces relatively free of clutter to maintain safety for all children.

7. Disinfect tables, toys, and play spaces with a sanitizing solution regularly.

8. Ensure that children are supervised at all times (this does not include security cameras).

9. Maintain current program and agency training.

10. Maintain the confidentiality of the children and their mothers.

11. All other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

1. Must have 4 years of experience in Early Childhood Development.


SKILLS/ABILITIES

1. Demonstrate the ability to use age appropriate transition strategies (song chants and poems) and or quiet, individual directions to the children who are to be involved in the transition.

2. Must be able to plan ahead to avoid problems.

3. Must be able to respect the rights of a child NOT to participate in SOME activities.

4. Demonstrate the willingness and ability to use a soft, effective teaching voice.

5. Demonstrate the willingness and ability to stoop down to a child’s eye level to achieve eye contact and speak clearly and quietly to the child.

6. Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work as a team player.

7. Demonstrate a willingness to go beyond the minimum requirements set out in the job description.

8. Understand the importance of confidentiality regarding all events, conversations and, and interactions that take place at the work site.


LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

1. Valid Mississippi Driver’s license and driving record that will not incur increased insurance rates.

2. CPR and First-Aid Certifications that are current.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.

2. Normal range of vision and hearing, with or without correction.

3. Must be able to drive a vehicle day or night.

4. Walking, bending, and lifting are required to do certain tasks.

5. Must demonstrate maturity and the ability to deal effectively with emotionally demanding and stressful situations.

6. Must be able to observe, process a lot of information, and be able to carry out and understand directions and instructions.

7. Must be emotionally stable, alert, and able to work alone.

8. Must be physically and emotionally capable of performing the essential functions of the job and display healthy, appropriate boundaries.

9. Must continue to achieve satisfactory rating on the annual job performance evaluation.


AGENCY COMPLIANCE:

  • Refer to and comply with the CCI Policy and Procedural Manuals in every part of their job.
  • Complete agency and program training as required.
  • Maintain all required documents in a current and orderly manner.
  • Submit all reports accurately and in a timely manner per due dates.
  • Adhere to all confidentiality policies, maintaining a high-level standard of confidentiality.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license, proof of required automobile insurance, and Child Protection requirements per policy.
  • Always alert to the physical/mental condition of residents and their children and report any suspicious situations to the person in authority.
  • Must work within standards of the agency mission, philosophy and policies/procedures.
  • Reflects Catholic Charities’ commitment to treating all people with dignity and respect.
  • Performs other duties assigned and deemed necessary for the effective and efficient operation of the agency.
