Lead Carpentry Technician

Stage Carpentry

Full-Time Position

 


We are looking for our next Lead Carpenter to join our Carpentry team. The main objective of this role is to support the Head of Department and the Operations Production Manager in the management of the Carpentry team. The Lead Carpenter's duties will include leading and managing show/maintenance teams in a safe and consistent manner in accordance with Cirque du Soleil standards and policies. The ideal candidate will be an organized leader and can maintain effective documentation.   

 

 

The Lead Carpenter will have the opportunity to:  

 

·       Lead and manage Carpentry/Props teams; 

·       Assist show leadership with budgeting and forecasting; 

·       Support Head of Department in purchasing and receiving needed for maintenance and show consumables; 

·       Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays;  

·       Run cue tracks to position scenic elements and related equipment as directed for performances, artist training, and maintenance; 

·       Manage and complete projects, when assigned by management; 

·       Maintain, inspect, and repair stage, backstage areas and stage equipment with appropriate documentation. 

·       Maintain cue track documentation and participate in cue track rotation, as directed; 

·       Ensure that all departmental personnel are adequately and appropriately trained according to the guidelines established by the company and management as well as official agencies regulating safety and training requirements; 

·       Work with the Head of Department to establish and maintain training and backup plans to ensure continuity of performance operations of the department in the event of unexpected failure of a system, component or piece of equipment; 

·       Assist show leadership in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance routines and inspections – particularly Life Safety and Show Critical; 

·       Ensure all departmental designs, equipment, systems, functions, procedures, show tracks, maintenance and inspections logs, special projects, etc. are properly and adequately documented; 

·       Support show leadership with special projects including the research, purchase, installation, testing, troubleshooting, integration and on-going maintenance; 

·       Assist other departments, as needed, to run the performances, rehearsals and trainings; 

·       Adhere to, and promote, all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training; 

·       Coordinate with other departments to ensure safe training, rehearsal and show environments; 

·       Develop a thorough knowledge of all carpentry department equipment specific to the production in order tooperate equipment safely; 

·       Completeall other job-related duties as assigned. 

 


What does it take for this role? The following hard skills are the basics of what’s needed to be successful in this position: 

 

·       High school diploma or GED completion; 

·       At least five years of previous experience as a professional Stage Carpenter working on large scale production shows; 

·       Proven success and previous experience supervising large crews; 

·       Previous experience working with maintenance programs; 

·       Previous experience working with metal, wood working, rigging, welding, mechanical and pneumatic; 

·       Ability to operate or train to operate various lifts and heavy equipment; 

·       Standard knowledge of theatrical construction techniques; 

·       Previous experience running show cue tracks and/or working as a run crew technician; 

·       Basic understanding and skills with power and hand tools; 

·       Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications; Experience working with AutoCAD is an asset; 

·       Formal fall protection and overall safety training is an asset; 

·       Knowledge of basic theatrical rigging, basic mechanics, electricity and electronics is an asset; 

·       Ability to obtain OSHA 30 course completion card; 

·       Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs unassisted, etc.; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions;
