ASSOCIATE DEAN-ADULT EDUCATIONWILBUR WRIGHT COLLEGEWilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeksan Associate Dean-Adult Education to serve as the chief assistantto the Senior Dean of Adult Education in the areas of academicpolicy, student admissions, curriculum research and development,faculty recruitment and retention, and budget development andadministration. This position acts as the administrator in chargeof the Adult Education Department in the absence of and inpartnership with the Senior Dean of Adult Education.Adult Education programs and services include instruction for:English as a Second Language (ESL); High School Equivalency (HSE)preparation to earn the GED or HiSET; Career Bridge classes tointroduce students to careers in various fields, such ashealthcare, early childhood education, and information technology;citizenship exam preparation; and basic computer skills trainingprograms.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES• Identifies and recommends staffing needs to the Senior Dean.Interviews and recommends to the Senior Dean selection of part-timefaculty. Evaluates part-time faculty and recommends retention ornon-retention.• Develops and implements a comprehensive orientation program forpart-time faculty, in conjunction with the Office of HumanResources at the College and the District Office.• Provides for an effective two-way channel of communicationbetween the administration and faculty to ensure the integrity ofthe educational programs, the currency of the offerings, and theinnovation of appropriate new technologies within the department.Diligently pursues and follows through with issues of concern andassists in resolving problems.• Serves as a hearing officer regarding student complaints andrecommends appropriate procedures for their resolution. Ensuresthat academic policies are distributed, explained, and adhered toby students and staff.• Prepares and develops budgets for the division in cooperationwith the Business Office. Assists the Senior Dean in monitoring thebudget. Develops and implements procedures for the request,purchase, and maintenance of instructional equipment and suppliesand ensures the maintenance of accurate inventory control.• Works with the Registrar’s Office to facilitate seamlessregistration processes for the Adult Education departmentconsistent with District policies and procedures.• Coordinates and directs the evaluation, review, andimplementation of innovative curriculum additions and revisions,course outlines and syllabi, and textbook selection.• Writes proposals to seek external funding for specific projectsand initiatives that require support beyond the District’scapabilities.• Works with the Office of Research & Planning to plan andimplement routine review concerning the numbers, status, andsuccess of course offerings. Prepares reports and analyses settingforth progress or adverse trends. Makes appropriate recommendationsand/or conclusions.• Uses computer software to prepare memoranda and spreadsheetreports detailing activities and statistics.• Represents the college to community organizations and agenciesand participates on district-wide committees.• Pays attention to detail in all aspects of each assignment toensure accuracy of information and reports.• Serves as weekend and/or evening administrator for thecollege.• Adheres to customer service excellence standards.• Performs related duties as required.QUALIFICATIONS• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, English as a Second Language(ESL), or a related field required. Master’s Degree in one or moreof the above-stated fields preferred supplemented by a minimum offive years of administrative experience in Adult Education and/orESL programs; or an equivalent combination of training andexperience required.• Proven organizational skills and supervisory ability.• Demonstrated ability to work well with employees at all levelsof the organization, in addition to students and other collegestakeholders required.• Must have excellent verbal and written communicationskills.• Must be computer proficient with knowledge of a variety ofsoftware programs.• Must be self-directed and innovative with the ability to assesscurrent operations in an effort to improve the future goals of theDistrict.• Must be able to meet deadlines in a timely manner.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS• Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends, asneeded.• Ability and willingness to travel between Wilbur Wright Collegeand Humboldt Park Vocational Education Center, as needed.Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees withinsix (6) months of hire.We are an equal opportunity and affirmative actionemployer.Thank you for your interest in City Colleges ofChicago!
