SECURITY ASSISTANT – PART TIMEMALCOLM X COLLEGEThe mission of Malcolm X College is to provide accessible liberalarts and health-focused education that fosters personal andprofessional achievement. Crime prevention and safety throughout the campuscommunity is the primary focus of the Security OperationsDepartment within OSS. Security Officers and related staff providea range of security services, patrolling campus facilities andgrounds, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls forservice, as well as other operational aspects of security andsafety at the District’s college campuses as well as the DistrictOffice.Malcolm X College is seeking a Part Time Security Assistant for theSecurity Services Department. Under supervision, and reporting tothe Director or Assistant Director of Security, this positionpatrols and monitors buildings, grounds and other areas at collegecampuses or at the District Office to ensure the safety andsecurity of students, faculty, staff and the general public. Theseare unarmed positions that support Security Officers and theactivities of the OSS.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:· Provides a uniformedpresence at an assigned college or the District Office, monitoringaccess and entry to buildings for the safety and security ofstudents, employees and the general public.· Patrols on foot and ina vehicle to provide security and watch for unusual or suspiciousactivities, and monitors activities in campus buildings andsurrounding grounds to guard against crime, theft andvandalism.· Notifies supervisor andSecurity Officers on duty of disturbances and/orirregularities.· Contacts emergencyresponders such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, asrequired.· Issues studentidentification cards, verifying student information and uses an IDBadging system with printer to create student identificationcards.· Provides securityescort services as needed to and from buildings and parking areason campus. Responds to service calls and alarms and takesappropriate actions.· Informs and warnsviolators of any City Colleges of Chicago policy violations asappropriate.· Provides publicassistance to students, faculty and the general public, providinginformation such as directions, office locations, and generalcampus information.· Operates two-way radioequipment to maintain communications with supervisors and othersecurity personnel.· Updates operations andincident logs to record activities during assigned shift.· Assists SecurityOfficers in carrying out security and safety duties asdirected.QUALIFICATIONS:· Associate degree orhigher from an accredited college in criminal justicepreferred.· Completion of a highschool diploma required.· Permanent EmployeeRegistration Card (PERC), as issued by the Illinois Department ofFinancial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) preferred.· Valid State of Illinoisdriver’s license is required.· Must pass a criminalbackground check.· Knowledge of District’ssecurity and safety procedures and practices· Knowledge of local andstate law enforcement agencies· Knowledge of basiccomputer operations relation to ID badging system operation· Good interpersonal andverbal communication skills· Good observationskills· Ability to work withina culturally diverse environment· Ability to exercisetact, diplomacy and persuasiveness in handling situations· Ability to articulateverbally in a clear and distinct manner during emergency andnonemergency situations· Indoor and outdoor workenvironment· Standard security andsafety equipment· Ability to climb anddescend stairs to access multi-level buildings· Ability to walk andpatrol designated areas on foot· Ability to stand at anassigned post for an extended period of time· Initiative –Demonstrate willingness to take on responsibilities and jobchallenges· Attention to Detail –Pay careful attention to detail and thoroughness in completing worktasks.· Dependability –Demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and dependability andfulfill obligations.Malcolm X College has been recognized as a Promising Places to Workin Community Colleges award winner!
