Under supervision, serves as Civil Engineer Intern in the Bridge Management Section of the Bureau of Bridge Maintenance, Inspections, and Operations, Division of Bridges. Perform civil engineering work of moderate difficulty and responsibility. Assists in research, investigations, or studies related to civil engineering functions or activities. Assist in performing structural analysis of bridge load rating calculations in accordance with load rating policies, procedures, and Federal and State load rating directives. Assist in performing the required structural analysis for the City-Owned Bridges to ensure their safety against the heavy weight Trucks and Cranes. Participates in field inspection of bridges to assess the condition and to obtain information for project scoping as part of Request for Proposals (RFP) for the procurement of design Consultants. Assist in reviewing budgetary plan for bridges rehabilitation projects. The selected engineers will be flexible to work on fully or any of the tasks described above depending up on the workload.
Preferred skills
Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, NYSDOT Bridge Manual, and NYSDOT Bride Inspection Manual is preferred. Knowledge of computer software such as AASHTOWare Bridge Rating, STAAD PRO, and any other related software programs is preferred.

1. A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college. A degree in any other engineering area or in civil engineering technology is not acceptable.
