Position DescriptionThe OfficeThe mission of the Seattle Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs (OIRA) is to improve the lives of Seattle’s immigrant and refugee families. We are looking for applicants who are motivated to use their communication skills and understanding of current and changing immigration policy to prepare for, inform, and respond to emerging issues impacting our neighbors. We hope that you have been looking for an opportunity to:• Create holistic marketing, communications, and community engagement campaigns, strategies, and products to improve the City’s ability to communicate with and engage immigrant and refugee communities.• Develop effective communication procedures and policies for various situations or crises involving immigrant and refugee communities.• Provide recommendations to the OIRA Director and the Mayor’s Office.• Communicate to internal and external partners on behalf of the OIRA Director on issues relating to immigrants and refugees• Provide specialized technical assistance to City staff for ethnic media relations.Job ResponsibilitiesTo Be Successful, You Are Committed To• Promoting racial equity and social justice.• Building relationships through authentic engagement.• Understanding and communicating complex immigration policies and programs to a variety of audiences.• Listening, creating space for diverse perspectives, and the pursuit of inclusive and just outcomes.• Increasing access to city activities and information for immigrants and refugees.To Be Effective, You Have• Created branding and culturally competent communications.• Engaged immigrant and refugee communities.• Built multifaceted communications strategies and content for a variety of programs and initiatives using writing, photography, video, graphic design, and marketing.• Developed press releases, media advisories, outreach materials, blog stories, web content, ethnic media advertisements, and social media updates for programs and policies.• Coordinated and managed the work of graphic designers and printers for outreach materials.• Reviewed social media content for accessibility, clarity, accuracy, and effectiveness.• Are familiar with Public Disclosure laws• Assisted your organization with ethnic media outreach, including trends and coverage and troubleshooting translation challenges for press releases, advertisements and other communications documents.• Built and maintained long-term relationships with reporters and ethnic media representatives to ensure accurate reporting of your organization’s work.• Proactively planned for and adjusted quickly to emerging issues and changing political environments.QualificationsA successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to building and implementing communications using an equity lens. The full pay range for this position is $48.19 - $72.23. For office pay equity reasons, this position will be paid $50.92/hour.This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and management. You may be asked to attend meetings and events that occur on weekday evenings and weekends.We offer a comprehensive benefits package including vacation, holiday, and sick leave as well as medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance for employees and their dependents.
